THE COMPANY
Founded in 1982 Helitrax's mission is simple....to deliver exceptional high mountain powder skiing, with safety as ther highest priority. Telluride Helitrax is family owned.
THE SKIING
Helitrax is unique. In a state recognized for its excellent skiing conditions, Helitrax operates the only heliskiing guide service in Colorado. Additionally they offer the smallest guest to guide ratio in North America, a maximum of four guests to each guide. On many occasions Helitrax will ski with a three to one ratio. Heliskiing in small groups with an A-Star helicopter is the most intimate way in which to enjoy powder skiing.
THE TOWN: Elevation 8,750 feet; Population 2221
Telluride “a place where people come to play”. Remote and unhurried Telluride's relaxed pace is the sort of vacation lifestyle you'll love. The Telluride ski area, ranked among the top ten in North America (Ski Magazine 2003), is truly world class. When snowfall is heavy and the helicopter is grounded guests of Telluride Helitrax enjoy the option of storm skiing at the Telluride Ski resort.
In the evenings the town of Telluride boasts over 50 restaurants offering cuisine ranging from award winning seafood to authentic Mexican with wines to please any palate. Be certain to stroll into the New Sheridan bar that dates back over one hundred years to Telluride's colorful mining past.
THE MOUNTAINS
The San Juans Mountains surround Telluride. They are Colorado 's youngest range at only 40 million years of age and make up the greatest concentration of 14,000-foot summits south of the Canadian Yukon. The scenery is steep, rugged, snow covered, and consistently recognized as some of the most breathtaking in North America. In fact in 2003 Ski Magazine ranked the San Juans the most scenic mountains to ski in North America.
THE WEATHER
The San Juans are desert mountains. What this means is that storms to our west pass benignly over the dry "Four-Corners" desert region of the southwestern United States until rising to meet the 14,000 foot summits of the San Juans. The snow that results from this dynamic confrontation is the lightest and driest to be found anywhere.
Due to the advantageous location far from the Pacific Ocean Telluride's weather patterns produce few days of fog. Post storm the skies clear out quickly resulting in bluebird days immediately following snowfall, which is fantastic. Experience the thrill of clear-sky high alpine heliskiing .
STATE-OF-THE-ART HELICOPTER
The Helitrax A-Star B-2 helicopter is operated under the direction of a dedicated helicopter provider, responsible for the aircraft's daily maintenance and operation. We use only turbine-powered equipment, designed for high altitude performance.
