Welcome to Moab, Utah!
Moab is a unique Western community situated in the red rock country of Southeastern Utah on the Colorado River. Arches National Park is only six miles from downtown and Canyonlands National Park is 32 miles from Moab. The City is surrounded by public lands which are used not only for grazing, drilling, and forestry but for recreation such as mountain biking, hiking, rafting, rock climbing, and cross-country skiing. Because the area is rich in these recreational opportunities, Moab has become the hub of tourist activity and services.

There are two
national parks and one state park within a few miles of Moab. Arches National Park is only 5 miles north of downtown and Canyonlands National Park, Island in the Sky District is only 32 miles away. Just off the road to Island in the Sky is
Dead Horse Point State Park.
Just 55 miles south of Moab is the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. All major roads to the parks and within these parks are paved. However, there are no service stations or restaurants located in the parks, so fill up your gas tank and stock up on snacks before you leave for your day's outing in the surrounding lands.
Water is in short supply in the desert, so it's wise to carry an extra jug or two with you on your excursions throughout the Canyonlands area. There are multiple places to get information, maps, and guidebooks which will help you make the most of your stay.
