When you’re in downtown Salt Lake City, be sure to visit Temple Square, the worldwide headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Temple Square is home to the historic Salt Lake Temple, the Tabernacle (home to the world-renown Mormon Tabernacle Choir), the Assembly Hall, and numerous monuments, fountains, and statues. Temple Square is the most visited attraction in the entire state of Utah and is well worth your time. Tours are offered daily; there is no charge. Two large visitor centers with films, paintings, and an 11-foot replica of Thorvaldsen's Christus are additional on site attractions.
The Salt Lake Temple is cut out of the granite found in Little Cottonwood Canyon, East of Salt Lake. Temple Square is a 10 acre plot of ground that draws millions of people from all over the world each year.
The Church's new spectacular Conference Center is now open across the street from Temple Square. Other related nearby attractions include the Museum of Church History and Art, the Family History Library (where anyone is invited to come do genealogical research on their own family), the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, Church Office Building, and the Beehive House and Lion House (homes of former Mormon leader Brigham Young).

Salt Lake’s world-class Hogle Zoo is open 364 days a year. Take your kids to the Hogle Zoo for a change of pace. Utah’s Hogle Zoo has a fun train ride, children’s discovery center, and gift shop, all in addition to the excellent animal exhibits. The Hogle Zoo is only minutes away from the Skyline Inn.
Great Salt Lake
The Great Salt Lake is all that is left of historic Lake Bonneville. Legends about the lake are widespread. A trip to Salt Lake City would be incomplete without a trip to the famed lake. Named for its high salinity (26%), swimmers in the Great Salt Lake float like a cork! Other popular activities include sailing, bird watching, wildlife spotting, and cruises (some dinner cruises are offered!). The park can be reached via one of two state parks: Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake park.
