The public is invited to Tabernacle Choir rehearsals on Thursdays from 8:00 pm-9:30 pm, (come and go as you like), and to the Sunday morning network broadcast at 9:30 am (you must be seated by 9:15 am). Kennecott Utah Copper Mine is the world's largest open pit mine, and the largest man-made excavation. A Visitor Center inside the mine itself features informative exhibits and videos and allows you to observe operations of the mine. You might even catch a blast as miners work nearby! Now 2,000 feet above the bottom of the mine, the Visitors Center offers an incredible view and allows visitors to take part in interactive displays and exhibits, including 3-D microscopes to examine rock and mineral samples, and a display of how copper is used in everyday life. You can also see exhibits including old mining artifacts and model trucks. The mine is 20 minutes southwest of Best Western Executive Inn.
The Great Salt Lake is Utah's amazing inland sea. It is the largest lake west of the Mississippi, covering 2,100 square miles, with an average depth of 13 feet. The deepest point is 34 feet. Only the Dead Sea has a higher salt content than the Great Salt Lake. The lake's salinity varies, but percentages have been as high as 27%. Yes, you really float easily in the Great Salt Lake. The lake is salty because it has no outlet, just inlets from the mountain streams. Because of the heavy salt content, the water never freezes. Antelope Island, the largest island in the Great Salt Lake, offers sandy beaches, hiking and biking trails, wildlife, spectacular golden sunsets and dramatic geology. Bonneville Salt Flats lie west of the Great Salt Lake. The ground is pancake-flat and the texture of the salty soil allows for traction and speed, making it a natural raceway. Speed demons gather twice a year to challenge world land speed records. There is a minimum speed limit of 130 mph. Any motor vehicle can compete if it can meet the speed limit requirement. Lagoon Amusement Park is the place for roller coasters and thrill rides. Lagoon-A-Beach offers a bazillion gallons of water fun for the whole family.
