Grand County, Colorado, is home to three fantastic ski areas: Winter Park Resort, SolVista Golf & Ski Ranch and Berthoud Powder Guides. Whether beginner or expert, skier or rider, we’ve got it all. Groomed terrain, backcountry powder, World-class moguls.
Step out on snowshoes or cross-country skis. Hop aboard a snowmobile, horse-drawn sleigh or even a dog sled. You can break trail through snow mountain meadows or head up to the tops of majestic peaks along the Continental Divide. Along the way, be on the lookout for incredible wildlife: You might see a fox, elk, deer or even a moose.
Many of our local resorts are open year-round and offer fun for the whole family. Stay in a rustic cabin with a roaring fireplace, take your group out on fun-filled sleigh ride and sit around a bonfire drinking hot chocolate and listen to great stories, or soak your bones in a natural hot springs.
Winter Park and the Fraser Valley is haven for Nordic enthusiasts. If you enjoy skating, classic technique or venturing off the track, this is cross-country skiing at its finest. Glide your way through frosted pine forests and rolling meadows blanketed in snow or test your skills at one of the many cross-country races.
You’ll have room to zoom on a guided snowmobile tour. Local outfitters offer tours from one hour to a full day. Or, rent a machine and spend the day exploring the lakes and forests of Grand County on your own

A Taste of the Great Outdoors
Get into the beautiful Colorado high country on a mountain bike, horseback, or by hiking. Take an exciting rafting trip through thrilling Colorado rivers. Get the feel of the real West by climbing aboard a horse-drawn wagon or stagecoach. Or take a spectacular balloon ride above it all. There’s never a lack of something to do during our glorious summer time!
Winter Park Resort Summer Activities
Alpine Slide - “Ride the Slide”
The Alpine Slide thrill begins with an eleven-minute scenic chairlift ride on the Arrow. Memories of Olympic Bobsledding come to mind, as you board your plastic alpine sled. Equipped with rollers and brakes, excitement becomes a reality as you feel the rush of the 610-foot vertical drop of the Alpine Slide. Over 3000 feet long, the heart-pounding track winds its way under the Arrow chairlift. Open from 10:00-5:30, come ride the slide at Winter Park Resort.
Leaps & Bounds Bungee
Have we got some great new stuff this summer! Check out the Leaps & Bounds Bungee, which consists of four individual trampolines linked by one center tower. “Jumpers” slip on a special harness that is attached to a giant bungee cord on the tower. Once snugly secured into the harness, the acrobatics can begin. Flips and twists are easy to perform with the help of the bungee cord. This new attraction is situated adjacent to the West Portal Plaza at the base of the slopes.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Gyro
Have you ever floated in space?! The Rock ‘n’ Roll Gyro is similar to the equipment designed by NASA for astronaut training, and used by many air forces to train their fighter pilots. The three-ringed gyro is powered by the rider. The force applied by a rider’s legs and arms causes the Rock ‘n’ Roll Gyro to begin rotating in a three dimensional orbit. The more pressure the rider applies the faster the rotation. Because the rider is always moving in three directions and the stomach stays at the center of the orbit, motion sickness does not occur. Fast or slow or in between, this unique attraction should not be missed. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Gyro is located at the base of the resort
Zephyr Express Chairlift
The Zephyr Express transports passengers from The Village at Winter Park (9,000’el.) to the summit of Winter Park Mountain (10,700’el.). Once at the top, enjoy an alpine hike or mountain bike ride on the resort’s 50-mile trail system. Then rest and linger over a relaxing lunch on the sunny decks of The Lodge at Sunspot. Don’t forget to do some shopping at the Sunspot Mercantile, the official summer logo store of Winter Park Resort.
18 Hole Frisbee Golf
The Zephyr Express transports passengers from The Village at Winter Park (9,000’el.) to the summit of Winter Park Mountain (10,700’el.). The 18 hole Frisbee Golf Course starts from there and works your way across ski trails with beautiful views of the Continental Divide. Play is free, but there is a fee to ride the Zephyr Express lift. Slopeside Gear & Sport rents and sells Frisbee golf discs, so come up a play a round.
Summer Ski Train Excursions
The Ski Train will be beginning its summer season excursions in June 2003, offering a postcard-perfect train experience through the dramatic peaks of the Rockies. Mountain bikers, hikers, music lovers, and sightseers alike enjoy a day at Winter Park. For comfort, convenience and amenities, there’s no better route to go. We travel through scenery you’ll never see any other way. In addition to the scenic wonders of the Flatirons and South Boulder Canyon, you will encounter rugged alpine wilderness and vistas not seen anywhere else but on The Ski Train. You’ll pass through dozens of tunnels including the historic Moffat Tunnel under the Continental Divide.
