Hotel Bristol Description: The Hotel Bristol, located in downtown Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is an intimate, full service hotel "the way it used to be" with a restaurant and saloon right on the premises serving up pasta and pizza and the finest libations a trail dry throat can imagine. Additional Information: There's off-street parking for your iron steed and a free city shuttle just out the front door to whisk you to all the wonders of Steamboat Springs - a herd of restaurants from fast to gourmet, shopping galore, from Tony Llama boots to Fredrick Remington originals and night life from tame to rock and roll.In 1948, Steamboat Springs' Police Chief Everett Bristol's new hotel carried its builders name. Like other Americans, he took advantage of access to building materials not available during WWII. As the Bristol matured Harold and Irene Killham took over as new owners and added a lobby and parking lot. Their family was to guide the hotel's direction for the next quarter century, managed by daughter and son-in-law Sam and Joan Graione. Almost overnight the new Steamboat Ski Area changed the Bristol from a hotel where traveling salesman enjoyed Irene Killham's home-made pies to an "in demand" lodge for the regions influx of seasonal visitors. Both Frontier Airlines and Continental Trailways helped bring some 200,000 winter skiers to a town with a total of only 1,000 available rooms. Through the 80's a succession of Bristol owners followed the Killham family's departure. In 1994, the hotel was purchased by Andy Van Baak. For three years they worked to change the previous owners' lingering "bed and breakfast" facade. Where back in the 50's, a pool hall had entertained locals and through the 60's geologists pored over rock samples on display from nearby molybdenum mines, Mazzola's has transformed Hotel Bristol's lower level into a spacious and friendly dining room. Finally on May 1, 1997, Hotel Bristol returned to Lincoln Avenue, renamed and redecorated, a tribute to Steamboat's past.... Amenities: Our 24 comfortable non-smoking guest rooms all have cable television, air-conditioning and antique (but, push button) telephones. Hotel rooms will comfortably accommodate two people with a choice of one queen bed or two twin beds, offering a 3/4 bathroom (shower, no tub). Family rooms accommodate four people in two rooms connected by a full size bathroom. Each room has two queen beds or one queen bed and two twin beds. The old caretakers unit has recently been converted into 2 unique suites. Each with all the amenities of the other guest rooms, but with expanded living areas, plush sleeper sofas, TV’s with DVD players, and down comforters. One suite features a queen bed and queen sleeper sofa in one room overlooking Main St. with a large bathroom and sunken tub. The second suite features 2 rooms; a bedroom with a queen bed and a living room with a twin sleeper sofa. Activities: Seven thousand feet up in the Colorado Rockies, nestled quietly below one of the largest ski mountains in North America, sits a small ranching community that serves as a constant reminder that the Old West is alive and well. Never far from its ranching roots, Steamboat remains firmly linked to a Western tradition that sets it apart from every other ski resort in the world. Whether you’re stepping foot into a local pub, one of our charming boutiques, or stepping off the gondola, the reception is the same--warm. But the down home friendliness is only half the reason people choose to vacation here. With 142 trails, 3,668 vertical feet, and nearly 3,000 skiable acres, its six peaks are filled with world-class groomed cruisers, bumps, steeps, open meadows, legendary trees & Mavericks-North America’s longest superpipe.
Steamboat is simply known around the globe as Ski Town USA®. Its skiing heritage dates back to the early 1900s. No other town in North America has produced more winter Olympians than Steamboat Springs, a record 54 and counting. In fact, Steamboat sent more athletes to the 2002 Games than many small countries including Travis Mayer, 2002 Olympic Silver Medalist.
And long before people strapped on skis for fun, Steamboat residents in the late 1800s were using ski and snowshoes in their daily lives. In fact, Steamboat Springs recently celebrated its 100-year anniversary. You’ll be hard pressed to find another resort town that exudes this much history, heritage and character. Come see for yourself why so many people call Steamboat home.
