Rest on a sun-baked rock and listen to the rush of the river, the song of the mountain finch or the bugle of a bull elk. Watch the sun slip behind the mountains making way for the brilliant glory of the starlit sky. Ideally located just 21 miles North of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, but surrounded by millions of acres of pristine forest, this intimate guest ranch presents everything for a fun and affordable getaway. The Elk River Guest Ranch is an enchanting mountain retreat that offers both solitude and adventure. We cater to those who want to indulge in a multitude of activities or just relax. The Elk River Guest Ranch is an exquisite setting for weddings, family reunions, business retreats, or private parties. Summer and Winter rates provide comfortable lodging, delicious meals and friendly service. Charming Cabins with wood stoves or fireplaces, private baths and full kitchens are comfortably furnished and decorated. Daily housekeeping service allows you to enjoy the comforts of home without the hassles. A large, clean hot tub is ready to soothe and relax your body after a day of playing in the mountains. Meals are available or you can use your own culinary skills in the kitchen of your private cabin which is stocked with all the basic cooking utensils. If you don't feel like cooking, Ranch meals are prepared with a gourmet flair that will tantalize your taste buds. Amenities: Charming cabins with fireplaces, private baths and full kitchens are comfortably furnished and decorated. Each cabin has one or two private bedrooms and can accommodate from two to six people. The Pearl Guest House offers private rooms with double or queen beds and a common bathroom. The Pearl rooms are a great option for overflow of large groups or for those who don't want all the luxury of a cabin but don't want to camp. Daily housekeeping service is provided for all lodging facilities between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to ensure everything is restocked and that lodging facilities remain clean throughout your stay.Activities: All of our horseback riding trails allow you to experience the splendor and variety of terrain found in the Rocky Mountains. You'll travel into the forest through lush aspen groves, wildflower studded hillsides and majestic pines where you can delight in fabulous views overlooking the Elk River, the Continental Divide and Mt. Zirkel Wilderness Area. This is an excellent way to spend a few hours or days for individuals, couples, families, and large groups.
Morning, afternoon and evening rides are scheduled every day from May 15th through October 10th. Call for times and availability. You will be matched to a beautiful horse suited to your riding ability. You will experience the quiet of the mountains, the roar of the river and an opportunity to witness wildlife in its own domain. Commonly sighted are mule deer, elk, grouse, golden eagles and red-tail hawks. We have also spotted cougar, bear, bald eagles, porcupines, foxes and coyotes.
Dinner rides feature your choice of an excellent New York Strip Steak, half of an Herb Roasted Chicken or Roasted Duck, Teriyaki Salmon filet, Chilean Sea bass filet or vegetarian shish-kabobs. Served with your entree are Ranch Style Potatoes, Glazed Green Beans, Sautéed Mushrooms, Caesar Salad, Garlic Bread, Lemonade and Water.
Dinner without any horseback activity is $25/adult dinner, $15/child plate.
Full Bar service is available at the Ranch's Silhouette Saloon and the Tepees. Guests may not bring their own liquor. For those guests that would like to have a bar drink they may keep an open tab throughout the meal. Tax and gratuity are not included in the rate. Four-percent tax will be added to all meals and a 17% gratuity will be added for groups of six or more.
One Hour Ride $35/horse; 1-Hour dinner ride is $55 per person.
Ride through flower studded meadows into an aspen grove passing beautiful Sioux Tepees. Ride on over a hill into the aspens overlooking the Elk River. This is an excellent horseback ride for young children or those without enough time to enjoy longer rides. Children five years and older will ride their own horse. Three and four year olds may ride double for an additional $20 dollar fee.
Two Hour Ride $45/horse; 2-Hour dinner ride is $65 per person.
Ride through a flower studded meadow overlooking the Elk River. Then meander down along the river to a trail that takes you up the mountain through the aspens and pines to Outlook Point for a spectacular view of the Continental Divide, Saw Tooth Ridge and the Mount Zirkel Wilderness area. Loop back through a giant aspen grove along a streambed that nourishes lush beds of columbine and other native wild flowers. This is a ride that everyone should do to get a real glimpse of Colorado. Cameras are a must. It is absolutely fabulous and fun for both novices and expert riders.
Half Day to the Beaver Ponds with lunch: $75/horse; with dinner $100.
Journey through rugged and beautiful terrain on your way to a magical place where the Beavers have created their homes. The ride is approximately 3-4 hours in total. The trail takes you through low, lush meadows and high mountain tops where you'll feel that you're on top of the world. This trail allows some trotting and cantering. However, please note the lead wrangler will ride to the level of the least experienced rider to ensure the safety of all. Cameras are a must. This is a wonderful ride for both novices and expert riders.
Pearl Lake Ride with lunch: $100/horse; with dinner $125.
The Pearl Lake ride is a great way to spend a day in the wilderness. Experience all the beauty of the Colorado Rockies on this scenic and fun ride. The trail will lead you through the awesome terrain found in the North Routt National Forest: lush aspen groves, majestic pines, meadows blanketed with wild flowers; you're very likely to observe wildlife along the way. This trail lends itself to some trotting and cantering. However, please be aware that lead wranglers will ride to the level of the least experienced rider to ensure the safety of all. Once you reach your destination of Pearl Lake, a hearty lunch will be served. The ride is 5 to 6 hours.
Private Two Hour Ride: $100; with dinner $125.
A great ride for novices or experts. As all of the Elk River Guest Ranch trails, this trail is very scenic but allows some trotting and cantering. The lead wrangler will ride to the level of the least experienced rider.
Private Lesson: $100;with dinner $125
The Private Lesson is tailored to the rider's level of experience. It can start from the beginning of catching, grooming and saddling or go straight out to the trail to polish up on old skills. Generally the private lesson is two hours and begins with some work in the round pen followed by a trail ride to try out new found skills.
Private All Day ride with lunch: $ 250/horse
This is an incredible way to spend the day and explore the Routt National Forest's lush aspen and fern groves, majestic pines, and wild flower blanketed meadows. Lunch will be served along the way at some fabulous location in the midst of a mountain paradise. The ride is approximately 6 hours in length.
Private Draft Horse Driving Lessons: $125/hour
Learn to drive a team of draft horses. The lesson is tailored to the guest in that it can start with harnessing the horses or go straight into driving the team. 1 hour.
Pony Rides for Tots: $20/person (2-4yrs)
Horses are lead by a wrangler on foot for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Parents are encouraged to walk along side. This is a great photo opportunity for family portraits or just the kids.
Wagon dinner ride to the Tepees: $50/adult, $35/child 6-12 yrs., $15 lap kids under 5 yrs.
Enjoy a wagon ride in the midst of a mountain paradise destined for a magical place to relax and dine. Our thirty-foot Sioux tepees offer a unique and elegant dining experience. They feature central warming fires surrounded by overstuffed pillows, couches and chairs. Start off the evening with delicious hors d'oeuvres in the Silhouette Saloon followed by a lovely wagon ride down the road along the Elk River then loop back through the ranch to enjoy dinner at our illustrious tepees. Great for everyone, large groups, private parties, family reunions, weddings, receptions, etc.
Lunches: $7 to $12
Lunches will be available from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with reservations for guests horseback riding, rafting the Elk River, or who just want a good meal. Any alcoholic beverages are additional. 17% gratuity and 4% tax will be added to the final bill for groups of six or more.
Daily Double: White Water Rafting the Elk River - $71.00 plus the cost of the ride of your choice with lunch or dinner.
Take an exhilarating rafting ride down the Elk River followed by lunch or dinner on the promenade Deck of the Silhouette Saloon along with a one or two hour horseback ride. This is a great Spring Time adventure. There may be age restrictions depending on the water level for the Elk River. Call for details.
