Riverbend Resort - South Fork, Colorado Description: Located at an elevation of 8300' on the South Fork of the Rio Grande River in the heart of the beautiful San Juan Mountains, just three miles southwest of the town of South Fork and 15 miles from Wolf Creek Ski Area, Riverbend Resort is the ideal year round vacation destination.Additional Information: Our charming, well heated housekeeping cabins all have fireplaces, TV, kitchens, bathrooms and are fully equipped for your convenience. R.V.'ers enjoy cool nights - warm days at our full hook-up sites, with satellite TV, planned recreation, laundry, and showers. Tenters appreciate our well shaded, roomy sites right on the river. Pets are welcome! All major credit cards accepted. Riverbend Resort has something for everyone. Stocked river fishing, rec hall with a fireplace, game room, hot tub, playground, weaving studio & gallery. The beautiful scenery, different in each season is a photographer's delight, Movie Buffs will remember Riverbend Resort as "KAMP KOMFORT" in the 1983 movie: "National Lampoon's Vacation". This is an area of many streams, lakes and reservoirs, including the Gold Medal Waters of the Rio Grande, noted for unparalleled trout fishing. There are high country trails for the novice or serious hiker, as well as jeep trails and ghost towns to explore. Nearby are the Creede Repertory Theater, famous narrow gauge train trips, Mesa Verde National Park, Great Sand Dunes, hot springs, rafting on the Rio Grande River, rock climbing, trail rides, championship golf, rock hounding and gold panning. Hunters, this is your perfect destination whether you bring your own camper or need a cabin. Hunt one of Colorado's premier hunting areas right from your own front door. Yes, we even have room for your horses! Wolf Creek Ski Area, open from the first of November till Easter, was rated by Snow Country Magazine readers as having the best snow quality and third least crowded area in the Western U.S. and Canada. Located 15 miles to the northeast on highway 160, Riverbend Resort is one of the closest lodges to the ski area. With National Forest on two sides, we are the ideal spot for cross country skiers, snow shoers, snowmobilers, and those who just want to play in the snow. If you are planning a family vacation, R.V. rally, hunting trip, ski group or just a quiet getaway, we have the facilities to accommodate your needs. Our cozy log and wood housekeeping cabins have been fully modernized for your comfort and convenience. Each cabin has at least one bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, gas furnace, fireplace, color TV, outdoor grill and a deck. All bedding and linens are included. Six ski lifts provide access to 55 trails and over 1600 acres of skiable terrain. Uncrowded slopes, short lift lines great food, friendly staff. Enrich your ski experience with a lesson at their excellent ski school. Children and beginner skiers will appreciate the Nova lift, which services the Nova and Susan's trails. If you are looking for a unique back country skiing experience, The Water Fall, Alberta Peak and Knife Ridge areas are for you.
Located an easy 15 mile drive down Highway 160 from the ski area, Riverbend Resort with its quaint cabins is the ideal place to call home during your winter vacation. Soak your tired muscles under the stars in our outdoor hot tub. Enjoy a glass of wine in front of your cabin's fireplace; you provide the wine, we furnish the wineglasses! Our four large cabins and group rates are perfect for ski groups. Your wallet will appreciate our lift ticket program.
Snow mobiling is becoming one of the most popular winter sports in Colorado and Riverbend Resort is ideally situated to help you enjoy the experience. Surrounded by the almost 2 million acre Rio Grande Forest with its 165 miles of designated snowmobile trails, there are dozens of groomed trails within 5 miles of your cabin. The South Fork's two snowmobile clues groom over 115 miles of trails which are shared by snow mobilers and x-country skiers. The Powder Busters has developed a trail map for your enjoyment. You an bring your own snow mobile or join a scenic back country adventure guided by a professional tour operator.
Relax by a warm fire in front of your cabin's wood burning fireplace while you watch the snow gently falling outside your window and winter birds playing in the bird feeder on your deck. Of course the birdseed is provided for you, along with ample firewood. Feel like a break from skiing - how about building a snowman, sledding, snow shoeing, or ice fishing? If you want to stay inside, we have games and puzzles to use in your cabin or you can visit the Game Room.
You can shop in Darlene's weaving studio or visit a number of unique shops just 3 miles away in South Fork. Although all our cabins have fully equipped kitchens, you may want to take advantage of South Fork's various restaurants for a night out.
The winter snows bring wildlife down to lower elevations making Mule Deer and Elk viewing opportunities plentiful. Remember that the high elevation intensifies the sun's effects, so bring your sunscreen. |
