The Spring House Located near the springs that feed Blue Lake, this Southwest style building has two large guest accommodations, Upper and Lower Spring House. Each accommodation has a spacious living room with mountain views, a gas fireplace and wet bar. Each has two large bedrooms (one with a king bed and one with two twins). The bedrooms have gas fireplaces and large baths with walk in showers and whirlpool tubs. Both accommodations enjoy mountain and meadow views and private covered portals for outdoor sitting. Upper and Lower Spring House can be combined to accommodate 8-12 guests. Each living room has two twin bed size window seats. The Oak Grove Casita The Oak Grove Casita is tucked into a Gamble Oak grove with a veranda looking up into the La Plata Mountains. It is furnished with Navaho rugs and baskets and has a living room with a gas burning fireplace, wet bar, and a sleeping alcove with twin beds. The bedroom has a king bed. Two baths, one with a Jacuzzi for two and one with a walk-in shower. The Cedar Casita The Cedar Casita has a covered patio overlooking our beautiful Iris and Peony field with the mountains as a backdrop. The living room has a gas burning fireplace, wet bar and a window seat with pull out king bed. The spacious bedroom has a king bed and mountain views. His and her baths, one with a Jacuzzi for two and one with a large shower. Sunrise Casita Navajo rugs on vintage wooden floors and hand-hewn beams create a special ambiance in this casita that is fully handicap accessible. There are spectacular mountain views from the covered portal and living room which has a gas burning fireplace and wet bar equipped with a small sink, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and grinder. The large bedroom has a king bed and the spacious bath has a Jacuzzi and walk-in shower. There is a queen bed fold-out sofa in the living room. Sunset Casita This panoramic mountain vista with views not only of the La Plata Mountains but also of the Sleeping Ute Mountain to the west, is unparalleled on the Ranch. Southwestern art and comfortable furnishings invite relaxation in the living room which has a gas burning fireplace and wet bar equipped with a small sink, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and grinder. The spacious bedroom has a king bed and the large bath with rose tiled Mexican limestone has a Jacuzzi and walk-in shower. The living room has a queen fold-out sofa. A covered portal completes this haven of relaxation. Sage Room Enter through a private coyote-fenced garden courtyard to enjoy this large, sunny room with king bed, gas-burning fireplace, vintage wood floors, Southwest art, and a sitting area. The limestone tiled bath has a six foot soaking tub with shower. The Cabin on the Lake The Cabin on the Lake offers the ultimate in privacy, the hand-hewn log cabin overlooks the trout-filled Blue Lake and has dramatic mountain views from either wrap-around deck or the living room with stone fireplace. Fully equipped kitchen, three bedrooms and three baths. Master bedroom-king bed, fireplace, second bedroom-queen bed and one with two queen beds. Equally comfortable for two to eight guests. The Cottage in the Woods The Cottage in the Woods provides an intoxicating blend of privacy and serenity. Secluded in pinon trees and a private garden, the Cottage has a spacious room with a gas fireplace, window seat and a king bed. The small kitchenette has a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, coffee bean grinder and kitchen sink. The bathroom has a Jacuzzi tub. A perfect romantic getaway. The Mountain View Suite The Mountain View Suite offers delightful mountain vistas from the garden patio or the spacious Southwest living room with Kiva wood burning fireplace. Downstairs is a full kitchen and bath with Jacuzzi tub. Upstairs are two bedrooms - one with a king bed and half bath and an adjoining room with two twin beds. There is also a fold-out bed. The Pinon Suite The Pinon Suite offers a serenade for your senses with the fragrance of flowers and a starry evening from one of two private cottage gardens. This sunlit suite has a living room with small kitchen, bedroom with king bed and private bath. There is also a fold-out bed. The River House The River House is located one mile from the Ranch House on its own eighty acres along the banks of the tranquil La Plata River. This cozy homestead house has a living room with gas-burning fireplace, a kitchen, a Mexican tiled bath, and two small bedrooms - one with a queen bed and one with two twin beds. Ideal for nature lovers and youngsters. The Garden Room This large sunny private room is an entire wing of the Ranch House. Entered through a library hall with a window seat, the Garden Room has a gas fireplace with a chaise lounge and love seat, a large window seat and French doors opening onto a small private deck. There is also a king bed and antique writing desk. The large bath has a marble two-sink vanity and Japanese-style walk in shower and deep-soaking tub. This room is ideal for a romantic special occasion. The Lakeview Suite Unwind on the sitting deck overlooking Blue Lake and the gardens. This second story room has a king bedroom, gas fireplace in the living room, a wet bar and bathroom with Jacuzzi tub for two. The La Plata Vista Room Enjoying the spectacular views of Blue Lake and the La Plata mountains on the deck of this room with a king bed, sitting area, and bathroom with Jacuzzi tub for two. The Mesa Verde Suite Overlooking Blue Lake and the La Plata Mountains, this suite with dormer windows in the upstairs queen bedroom has a downstairs living room and bath with a deep soaking tub. Enjoying the spectacular views of Blue Lake and the La Plata mountains on the deck of this room with a king bed, sitting area, and bathroom with jacuzzi tub for two. Amenities: Room AmenitiesEnjoy a movie during your stay at the Ranch. Our accommodations are equipped with TVs and VCRs. We have a great selection of documentaries, children's movies and classic films available in the Trading Post. Accommodations outside the Ranch House are equipped with coffee makers, grinders and are stocked with fresh roasted regular and decaf coffees and teas. All guest rooms have a telephone and there is no charge for local calls. You must use a calling card or credit card for long distance calls. A European-style buffet breakfast offering a selection of cheese, meats, cereals, fruits, seasonal berries, pastries, juices, Southwestern entrees, fresh roasted coffee and tea is served daily in the Ranch House. Enjoy eating in the breakfast greenhouse or outdoors on the patio.

The Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad This scenic trip is a must for visitors to the Southwest. The little train has been in operation for over 100 years, and winds through the San Juan National Forest. We suggest taking the train one way and the bus (provided by the train and covered by roundtrip ticket) one way. This cuts about two hours off the trip and the views from the bus are spectacular. Ask for the canyon side of the train and take the bus up and the train back.

Mesa Verde National Park
Just thirty minutes from the Ranch, Mesa Verde National Park is considered the top Historic Site in the United States. Take a picnic lunch-you can have one made at the Absolute Bakery in Mancos (970)533-1200, and plan on spending the day.
The Ute Mountain Tribal Park
Probably the area's best kept secret, this Ute Mountain Indian owned and operated private park's six times larger than Mesa Verde and contains some incredible archaeology sites-left just as they were found. You must go into the park with an Indian guide - which makes the adventure even more special. The East Entrance to the park is just sixteen miles from the Ranch, and the guides are happy to meet our guests there at around 10:00 am. The tour is usually over around 3:00 pm. You'll need to take a picnic lunch and water.
Fishing
Blue Lake the Ranch's private small lake is stocked with trophy Rainbow and Brook Trout. We have a catch and release policy (use barbless hooks). There is also fishing in the La Plata River (small holes), and at Shirley's parent's Ranch on the Animas River - 2 miles of excellent private fishing. The Ranch is also less than an hour from the San Juan and Dolores River.

Hiking
There are places to hike on the Ranch itself, including a two mile stretch of the La Plata River, and the Ranch is just minutes from mountain hiking in the La Plata Canyon and along the Colorado Trail.
Biking
Mountain bikes are available for rent in Durango, and there are many places to bike in the Durango area, (Hasslefree Sports (970)258-3874, Southwest Adventures (970)259-0370). Our guests enjoy biking on farm roads near the Ranch and up the La Plata Canyon.

Trimble Hot Springs

Crow Canyon Archeological Center

Other Archeological Sites Aztec, Hovenweep, Lowrey, and Salmon Ruins are all less than an hour from the Ranch and except for the Aztec Ruins, you'll see very few visitors at these splendid sites.
Trading Posts
The Ranch is perfectly located for a circle drive taking in several of the Region's top Trading Posts. The great ones are sometimes hard to find. The Blue Lake Ranch staff will help you find them.
San Juan Skyway
Spend a day driving the circle from the Ranch to Telluride, Ouray, Silverton, and Durango. This five and a half hour driving time trip is spectacular in the spring, summer, and fall.

Skiing
Guests enjoy cross country skiing on the Ranch. The lake is also available for ice-skating. We are close to Cross Country ski trails open to the public. Downhill skiers can ski at the family oriented local Hesperus Ski Hill seven miles away, or the larger resorts of Durango Mountain Resort or Telluride.
Golf
Forty minutes south of the Ranch lies Pinon Hills Golf Course in Farmington, NM (505)326-6066. Recognized by Golf Magazine as one of the top public courses in the country, our guests rave about the 18-hole course. We are also forty minutes from Tammaron Golf Course (970)259-2000, one of the most scenic mountain meadow golf courses in the country. There are two additional courses in the Durango area, Dalton Ranch and Hillcrest Golf Course are also nearby.

Durango has many locally owned stores and factory outlets offering the finest in Western wear, cowboy hats, etc. Ask our staff for particulars.
