Bar Lazy J Guest Ranch Description: BAR LAZY J is nestled in a peaceful valley along the banks of the Colorado River. Opened in 1912, BAR LAZY J is considered the oldest continuously operating guest ranch in Colorado.Additional Information: We can accommodate 42 guests in 12 cozy, comfortable log cabins plus the "RANCH HOUSE." Our cabins can sleep from two to eight and all have screened porches with a view of the beautiful Colorado River. Cabins are cleaned and the beds made daily. There is a coin-operated laundry for our guests. For most meals everyone gathers in the historic lodge where we serve good old American home style food. Lunches are served in our river porch overlooking the Colorado River. At 7500 feet elevation the mountain air and outdoor life provide a terrific appetite booster - so we serve em' up in cowboy sized portions. Our entrees are accompanied with delights such as homemade breads, pastries and desserts. Since our own family is split between meat and non-meat eaters, we recognize and appreciate guests' variance in appetites. With advance notice we will do our darndest to satisfy yours. Fresh fruits, coffee, tea and lemonade are always available. You can choose to lounge around in our 2O X 4O heated swimming pool, soak in our wonderful Jacuzzi, grab a book from our the library room, or sit and relax in the main lodge. The recreation barn is always open for a game of pool, shuffleboard, ping pong, or foosball. Activities: Children's Program: We feel we have an outstanding children's program. The counselors lead the children through games, crafts, horseback riding, swimming and hiking. This is available from 8:30 AM - Noon and 1:00 - 5:00 PM. The counselor program is for children 3 years and up. Children 7-12 are assigned a horse for the week and daily trail ride. Children 3-6 are led on horseback in the arena. Each year we adopt a couple lambs and other animals which the kids can bottle feed. We also have, quite a collection of kittens.
Fishing: Our 3/4 mile of the river - designated Gold Medal Fishing - offers some of the best Rainbow and German Brown trout fishing in the state. Not only is it a challenge for the "old time" fisherman, it is great fun for the beginner or in-between. We have a free fishing clinic once a week for anyone interested in learning more about fishing our stretch of river. We also have a stocked trout pond for everyone to enjoy.
Horseback Riding: Our horse rides take you through the Arapaho National Forest's sage-covered hills and majestic mountains, with it's sapphire skies and crystal-clear views. Twice a day we have scenic, moderate and adventure rides on numerous riding trails covering a variety of mountain terrain. Once a week we offer a breakfast ride and an all-day ride. Our wranglers carefully consider experience and ability before pairing you with YOUR horse for the week. We encourage anyone who hasn't ridden for a while to let our wranglers give you personalized riding instructions.
Evening Activities: These include hay-rides, a sing-along by the campfire, western dancing, and a volleyball night. Friday night the crew will entertain you with a fun filled staff show. On most Saturday nights there is a rodeo you can attend in nearby Fraser. Of course there are nights when nothing is planned. You can start a card game, visit with the Helmicki's, the people in the cabin next to you, walk under the stars or just sit out in front of your cabin and enjoy the peaceful, cool nights with the river rushing by.
Other Activities: Jeep rides: Each week we take scenic jeep rides into the high country surrounding the ranch. Mountain Biking: We have a fleet of Diamondback cycles for our guests' use. Rafting: Nearby is a rafting company offering an all day scenic trip with some white water. Tennis: Five minutes from the ranch in Hot Sulphur Springs are scenic public courts. Golf: Thirty minutes from the ranch are two eighteen hole championship golf courses located in Grand Lake and Winter Park. Van Trip: Each week we offer a sight seeing van trip into the Arapahoe National Forest and Grand Lake. |
