The log and stone, board-and-batten Lodge was custom built in 1997 and is reminiscent of the grand lodges of the Adirondacks and Rockies built by oil barons and industry scions in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Set on more than five acres of land atop a beautiful plateau just four miles outside of Estes Park, Taharaa offers a secluded retreat with spectacular views of the Mummy Range mountains and territorial landscape. Most important is the personalized hospitality and gracious service of the Innkeepers, Ken and Diane Harlan, who have infused the Taharaa Mountain Lodge with the best of 30 years of travel to outstanding inns and hotels in the United States, Great Britain, Europe, and beyond. At Taharaa, the Harlans have combined the amenities of a world-class Lodge with the scenic beauty and relaxed atmosphere that creates a very special and memorable experience. Designed with the total comfort of its guests in mind, Taharaa offers three suites and nine lodge rooms, each with its own fireplace and deck with stunning panoramic vistas. Each room is distinctively decorated with a unique motif that reflects the natural beauty and history of the region. Lodge Rooms: Arapahoe Room - Reflecting the spirit of the native West, a splendid carved Indian queen bed is the centerpiece of this well-appointed room which features a loveseat for quiet reflection. A generous fireplace, private viewing deck, and bathroom with deluxe shower complete the room. Black Horse Room - The days of wild horses and great rail adventures are evoked in this nostalgic room with a colonial queen bed and loveseat. An attractive fireplace and private viewing deck complement the room, which has a private bathroom with deluxe shower. The Columbine Room - A floral theme recreates the romance of the 19th Century in this exquisite room featuring a queen wrought-iron bed and loveseat. A lovely fireplace, private bath with deluxe shower, and a private deck with spectacular views enhance the romantic charm of the room. Snowshoe Room - The quiet beauty and cozy comfort of a deep winter's day provides the theme for this snug room, which features a beautiful willow-twig queen bed and a loveseat perfect for curling up with a book. Enjoy the fireplace, and a private deck for wonderful winter and summer views, and a private bath with deluxe shower. Big Thompson Room - A fishing motif creates a true retreat from everyday cares in this engaging room accented by a beautifully hand-painted queen bed. Sink into oversized chairs drawn close to the fireplace. Enjoy the private deck with splendid vistas. The private bath has a deluxe shower. Lark Bunting Room - A winsome bird motif complements this charming room featuring a custom queen bed and comfortable wingback chairs. Long's Peak Room - The peace and refreshing beauty of the region's forests, mountains and abundant wildlife are modeled in the decor of this elegantly natural room. Furnished with a king bed accented with pine-tree cutouts, two oversized chairs, the room has a fireplace, private deck, and a private bath with deluxe shower. Rocky Mountain Jim Room - Featuring a pine log king bed, this room evokes the rugged informality of the frontier West with the comforts of a cozy fireplace and loveseat (single sleeper bed*). Contemplate the spectacular views from the private deck. The bathroom is accessible for those physically challenged, featuring a bathtub/shower. *This sleeping arrangement can accommodate two persons in separate beds. Ute Indian Room - The heritage of the region's Ute Indians is celebrated in this enchanting room which features an aspen log queen bed. Enjoy mountain and territorial views from a private deck, or relax on the comfortable loveseat next to the fireplace. The room includes a private bath with deluxe shower. Suites: Stanley Steamer Suite - The nostalgic delight of antique cars evokes the early 1900s in this handsomely appointed Junior Suite and complemented by a charming queen Yorkshire bed. Classic furnishings include a comfortable leather loveseat in front of the fireplace. In addition to the private deck, the room features a bathroom with a double-person steam shower. A truly classic retreat. Dunraven Suite - The elegance of polished alder combines with a nautical theme of adventure on the high seas to create a refined respite in this inviting Junior Suite. Against the backdrop of the glowing fireplace, the queen sleigh bed is a graceful complement to the secretary with writing desk, and two classic wingback chairs. For private relaxation at day's end, enjoy the spectacular views from the deck or relax in the bath's double Jacuzzi tub or adjacent shower. An elegant retreat. Taharaa Suite - The romance of stunning views and the comfort of a sumptuously appointed two-room suite make the Taharaa Suite a truly luxurious retreat. With a southwest theme that echoes the beauty of Colorado, the living room features a Taos Drum coffee table and a striking double-sided fireplace that also casts its glow into the bedroom on a southwest king bed. Appointments also include a secretary with writing desk, an oversized chair and a sofa** adjacent to your private patio deck. The bathroom, featuring double vanities, provides a delightful double Jacuzzi tub and shower for an indulgent and relaxing way to end the day. **Up to two people may sleep on the queen sofa bed for an additional daily fee of $20 per person. Amenities: All lodge rooms and suites have private bath with tub or deluxe shower, gas fireplace, air-condition, in-room phone with voice mail and data port, TV/VCR/DVD, CD/clock radio, and private deck. All facilities are accessible to the handicapped. The entire lodge is a smoke-free environment. For your added convenience there is an elevator in the Lodge.Gourmet breakfast is served daily from 7:30 - 9:30 am in the summer and 8-10 am in the winter, evening refreshments from 5:30-6:30 pm. Guests are invited to spend a quiet afternoon in the Great Room or Den, enjoy the exercise or sauna facilities, browse in the Solarium or relax in the Spa. Walking trails with benches allow for casual strolls or new vantages of the excellent views.
