Elkstone Inn Bed and Breakfast Description: Beautiful new bed and breakfast located on 10 wooded acres on the Animas river in Durango, Colorado. Elkstone Inn Offers Full Country Breakfasts And Massages With A Peaceful And Romantic Environment.Additional Information: Elkstone Inn is located 8 miles North of Durango and minutes South of the Durango Mountain Resort (formerly Purgatory Ski Resort) and rests upon ten gorgeous acres of pine, oak and fruit trees. The Animasriver and multiple streams run through the property. Elkstone has 6,000 beautiful square feet and is two stories high. It's structure, so exquisite, is composed of beautiful red cedar wood. Extensive redwood decking, approximately 1,900 square feet, some covered and uncovered, surrounds the inn. Lawn furniture beckons Elkstone guests eager to take a break from play. Inside, the large beams are striking against the lofty ten foot ceilings. Elkstone sits beside the trout filled Animas river and is nestled within the breathtaking snow-capped San Juan mountains during wintertime and the lush green carpet of Aspen and Fir trees during the summer. The Elkstone Inn has four wonderfully spacious and very romantic rooms; each with it's own spectacular views. The Elkstone, Riverfront, Wild West, and Narrow Gauge rooms are all beautifully decorated and each has it's own touch of warm western hospitality brought to life by the Verheyden family. All rooms have king pillow-top beds, beautiful gas-log fireplaces, large private baths with bath/shower combinations, elegant furnishings and large picture windows; generously offering guests outstanding views of Elkstone's spectacular mountainous surroundings. ROOM Descriptions: #1. Elkstone Room: Beautiful and romantic Reunion King Annapolis furniture in dark mahogany wood. Perfect for a romantic get-a-way weekend. This beautiful room faces the Animas river and mountains and Animas valley to the East. Top floor. Gas log stove and ceiling fan. Colors selected for the warm of hearts. Our most exquisite! #2. Riverfront Room: As the name implies, this extravagant room views the Animas River and Valley to the East. The gorgeous King size Sleigh bed of dark cherry wood and matching cherry wood accent pieces, tall dresser and end tables, are impeccable and completes the opulent look that any special vacation and holiday period mandates. Colors that soothe and warm; honeymooners, anniversary couples, and vacationers will be enchanted! #3. Narrow Gauge Room: Hand hewn King headboard made from Gorgeous Aspen logs make this room "Country Special". The artist is a popular furniture maker in Cortez, Colorado. The refined accent furniture pieces are of Aspen wood and look fabulous with the dynamic Aspen log headboard. Gas log stove, ceiling fan, and charming colors finish off the look of perfection for this westside mountainview room. In the early morning light, watch the Narrow Gauge train chug by on a distant ridge of the San Jaun mountains. Top floor. An open window in the Summer will lend its guests to cool gentle winds and whispers of the nearby stream and river. Very romantic and relaxing. #4.Wild West Room: Western fun describes this room best. A wonderful Aspen log king headboard takes precedence and beautiful Aspen log furniture accent pieces complete the western decor. Indian and Cowboy art and extra's; paintings from Buck Teeter (an original 'Sons of the Pioneers'), bridles, incredible silver spurs, and other charming mementos of our western past are displayed for your enjoyment. Gas log stove, ceiling fan, reading materials of the west. Yeeeeehaaaa!!! This room offers the private bath with the five foot shower. Amenities: Accomodations: Four spacious, uniquely decorated, KING pillow-top bedrooms. Three of the guest rooms are equipped with private bath/shower combinations. The fourth room has a spacious five foot shower. All have private dressing areas and a large closet. Each room includes an independent temperture controlled beautiful gas log stove, beautiful matching end tables, dresser, reading lamps, comfortable chairs, ceiling fan, phone, cable TV and spectacular views! A fabulous full breakfast and evening homemade desserts (many award winning!) are included in your stay at Elkstone. Access to our outside hot tub is also included. Gaze at the stars while taking a soak!! Gas log fireplace and guest bar with full refrigerator and ice maker can be found in the guest den. Bar glasses and ice are available for wine, margaritas, or your favorite bar drink in the guest dessert/bar area. Activities: The Day Spa!
Make an appointment for a "Spa" Treatment at Elkstone. At the Inn, Debby, a Registered Nurse/Certified Massage Therapist offers health tips, Swedish Massage, Sports massage, Deep tissue massage, Oil and Salt scrub treatments, and Neuro muscular treatments. All Massage therapists are well trained and certified! What a treat to add to your vacation schedule!
Area Activities!
There are dozens of activities in our area. We would be happy to assist you by offering you "Elkstone's Activities List". It is our way to share with our guests "How to Do Durango"! Your copy will be given to you upon your arrival at our home.
Summer activities in the Durango area include hiking, Mesa Verde National Park, the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, white water rafting, fishing, mountain climbing, jeeping to old mining towns, mountain biking, kayaking, golf at Tamarron, Hillcrest, or Dalton Ranch, a night at the Bar D Wranglers for dinner show, and many more Summer choices.
Winter activities offer dog sledding, tube sledding, downhill skiing at the Durango Mountain Resort (15 miles) or Wolf Creek (about 1.5 hours from Durango), snowmobiling, snow shoeing and cross country skiing. We have all the ski rates, too.
If you find yourself totally exhausted from the activities that Durango, Silverton, and the four corners have to offer, come back to your vacation home at the Elkstone Inn. Find your way outside and lounge on the expansive 1,900 square feet of redwood decks while enjoying a cool glass of freshly made iced tea or a delicious piping hot cup of coffee or cocoa. Soak in the beautiful outdoor Hot Tub.
Enjoy the homemade desserts at the dessert bar. Quietly gaze upon the elk, deer, birds, beavers, and other wildlife in the meadow or amble down to the river and throw in a fishing line!
