Activities: Thousands of acres of National forest and BLM land and wilderness areas surround Crested Butte, making it a sportsman's paradise year round.
Fishing, hiking, horseback riding and rafting are all easily accessible from town. Crested Butte is a mountain bike mecca and hosts the annual Fat Tire Week in July. It is also the Wildflower Capital of Colorado, and each July hosts the Wildflower Festival, which brings experts in the field to observe and study the gorgeous flowers that blanket the mountain slopes.
Winter brings pristine and quiet beauty to the mountains. Skiers come from around the world to ski Crested Butte's EXTREMES while other parts of the mountain offer something for everyone's skiing ability. The Nordic Center maintains many kilometers of groomed trails for cross country skiers and skaters alike, and there are back country cross country trails as well. Other activities include ice skating, dog sled and sleigh rides, and the ever-popular snowmobile trips.
