The Kelly Place Description: Kelly Place is both an outdoor educational center and unique "bed and breakfast " located in the heart of the Four Corners, just 10 miles west of Cortez, Colorado in red-rock McElmo Canyon. Additional Information: In the 1960's George and Sue Kelly, horticulturists from the Denver area, built the current lodge as their retirement home and created an "oasis on the edge of the desert" with orchards, gardens, and courtyards at the base of the "Sleeping Ute Mountain", and amongst the ancient Indian ruins. Your hosts, Rodney and Kristie Carriker, have continued since 1980 to make this "oasis" an enjoyable and educational experience for all their guests. There are over 25 documented Anasazi Indian sites on the 100 acre estate and guests may follow a self-guided tour to any of these. Bordering Canyons of the Ancients National Monument (to the north), guests may also want to hike the many red-rock canyons located just "out our back door". The Lodge is an adobe-style building with courtyards, built in the mid-1960's. There are seven rooms in the main lodge and three adobe-style cabins, some with kitchenettes, fireplace, and jacuzzi tub. All rooms have private baths and queen-sized beds, plus. The atmosphere is relaxed, southwestern style. Kelly Place is also the perfect location for your family reunion, wedding, or executive retreat with overnight groups of up to 24 people. Groups of six or more may want to sign up for a four night/five day horse and covered wagon trip. Amenities: All rooms have private baths and queen-sized beds, plus. There are self-guided hikes to ruins and mountain bike trails. Because of our central location to other local attractions, many guests use Kelly Place as a base from which to make their daily excursions and then return for relaxed evenings here.
