Mountain Retreat Guest House Description:

Mountain Retreat Guest House is an elegant Victorian style home set amidst manicured gardens, situated on a 20 acre plateau, surrounded by mountains on three sides and a spectacular view of the city of Castlegar on the south.

Our B & B is a secluded nature getaway, yet 5 minutes from urban conveniences, including an airport and a world class golf course.

Mountain Retreat Bed and Breakfast is a peaceful place to relax, listen to the birds, watch the wildlife in the meadow, stroll in the gardens, breathe the clean air, meditate in the gazebo, walk/jog the perimeter of the hayfield, workout in the exercise room, drink pure water from our own springfed system, sleep in a luxiously comfortable bed, and enjoy a delicious wholesome breakfast.

Mountain Retreat was originally a working hobby farm. The land was purchased, the water system developed and the houses built in the mid seventies by the Scarff/Bristow families. They cleared the land, built the barn and chicken house and began farming in the early eighties. These were the days of self-sufficiency and "back to the land". In 1994, Gwenath Melan and George Mesley renovated the farm house into Mountain Retreat Guest House.

At Mountain Retreat we specialize in luxurious beds. Each bed is outfitted with a featherest mattress, white goose down duvet and pillows and fine European linens.

The White Suite is 300 square feet of comfortable luxury. A queen bed, featherest mattress, white goose down duvet, silk sheets, Egyptian cotton Rhapsody towels, and Fruits and Passion bath products are offered for your complete enjoyment in this 2 room suite with 4 piece ensuite. Decorated in white, it is a romantic setting for any celebration, including honeymoon and anniversary.

The South View Room is the room with a spectacular view of the city of Castlegar. It's furnished with 2 double beds and a sofa. With 4 piece ensuite, featherest mattresses, down duvets, jersey sheets made in Portugal, this room is very comfortable for a couple or a family.

The Green Room has a more masculine look with cedar walls, European antique furniture, and green and burgundy decor. It has a queen bed with featherest mattress and down duvet, large 4 piece ensuite and sitting area for reading, relaxing or watching cable TV/VCR. This room looks out over the garden and hayfield where elk, deer or coyotes may be seen at dusk or just before daybreak.

Decorated in vanilla, blue, and a touch of rose, the Victorian Room is light and lovely. It's furnished with a queen bed and antique desk and bedside table from Belgium. Featherest mattress, white goose down duvet and jersey sheets from Portugal ensure a comfy night's sleep. This room has a separate sitting area and three piece ensuite.

The Library Room was the library in the original farm house. It's a smaller room with a magnificent view of the city of Castlegar from it's picture window. Stained glass, double bed with featherest mattress and down duvet makes this an elegantly comfortable room for a single or a couple. Shared bath.

Activities:

For our guests who want to keep up with their fitness routines, Mountain Retreat Guest House has a l km. walking/jogging track around the perimeter of the hayfield. This track offers a cardio workout with no incline in the fresh mountain air. It is maintained summer and winter. The fitness room at Mountain Retreat Guest House has a spectacular view of the city of Castlegar. It is light and well ventilated. It is equipped with a computarized state-of-the-art recumbent bike which features a variety of programs to suit both the novice and experienced. It includes a heart monitor and adjustable seat. A set of sportblock weights ranging from 3 lbs. to 21 lbs., an incline/decline bench, fitball and ABslide are available for a complete workout experience. Our newest addition to the fitness room is a CHI machine. This machine has been researched for 37 years and is designed to stimulate an exclusive body response through gentle "figure 8" oscillations of the body, helping to relax and rebalance, promoting a feeling of vitality and well-being. Recommended use is 5-15 minutes. You can enjoy the benefits of this innovative machine while staying at Mountain Retreat Guest House.
