Little Acres Bed & Breakfast Description:

Little Acres Bed, Breakfast and Bales in Fruitvale BC is just a short drive from Trail, Rossland, Castlegar and Nelson. Midway between great skiing at Red Mountain and Whitewater.

Additional Information:

Board your horses for the night in our safe, comfortable facilities. Enjoy a peaceful setting against the mountains. Golf and ski packages available, plus great trail riding, flyfishing, mountain biking, boating and canoeing. A hiking & bird-watching paradise. Hot tub & barbeque available for guests.

Little Acres' two guest rooms, the Evergreen and the Birchwood, are furnished with super-comfortable queen-sized beds. The Evergreen has a private 2-piece bathroom; both rooms share a shower and tub.

Little Acres B&B offers safe, comfortable accommodations for horses too. We have one indoor stall (12' x 14') suitable for a stallion or mare & foal, with an outside run for two horses. Only horse-safe fencing is used on the property. Rates are $15 per horse, per night, and include feed and water. Rates are lower if the horse owners are Little Acres guests.

Your hosts Alberta (Bert) and Larry are native Albertans from Red Deer and Edmonton, respectively. They are newlyweds who travelled in diverse directions before arriving together in the beautiful town of Fruitvale, BC.Bert started her career as an office clerk in Ontario. She moved to BC to begin work in the mining industry, where she performed office duties, provided computer support, and eventually worked as a heavy-equipment operator driving 150-ton trucks. With the demise of the mining company, Bert was required to change careers and decided that she was well-suited to enter the health care field. She began a new career as a Care Aide and recently completed the courses necessary to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She now uses these skills at the Riverside Family Medicine Clinic in Trail, BC.

Larry started his career in the airline industry in 1967 with BC-based Pacific Western Airlines. During his 27 year career Larry worked numerous jobs, starting as a baggage handler, a ticket agent, then on to various mid-management positions. During this time Larry lived in: Norman Wells and Hay River NWT; Edmonton; Toronto; and Cranbrook, Blue Lake, Kimberley, Campbell River and Fruitvale, BC. Larry ended his career in '93, and has many stories about his adventures both as a result of his career and his outside interests.

Bert and Larry share a passion for horses. Bert has been a horse owner and active rider (mostly trail) for more than 30 years. Larry is a recent convert and now spends his time taking care of their two horses, Von (Azteca) and Riley (Morgan/QH). Their dog Bud (English Springer spaniel) keeps them entertained with his personality. Bert and Larry's other interests include: hiking, fly fishing, snowshoeing, camping, and of course trail riding. Weekly trail rides in search of new areas have given them a good knowledge of this "hidden jewel" called the West Kootenays.

Activities:

The West Kootenay region is a golfer's paradise. Little Acres guests receive special rates at five of the area's best courses. Guests must book their tee-off times with us, and payment must be made to Little Acres. Tee-off times and golf carts are subject to availability at the time of booking. Champion Lakes Golf & Country Club (5881 yards) Champion Lakes Golf & Country Club is a picturesque course only minutes from Little Acres. Named for the nearby provincial park, the course is split by Marsh Creek, and there are three small ponds at the centre of the course, replicas of the much larger Champion Lakes to the northwest. These water hazards and 41 bunkers will test your accuracy. Castlegar Golf Club (6457 yards) Castlegar's 18 challenging holes are set on a beautiful plateau overlooking the confluence of the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers. This 3 1/2 star course (as rated by Golf Digest) offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Most of the greens possess distinctive slopes that can be tricky to read. The most challenging hole on the course is the par four, 456 yard 9th. The green's back-to front-slope leaves many golfers with a treacherous downhill putt. Rossland-Trail Country Club: Birchbank (6500 yds) A great walking course with spectacular views of the Columbia River. Birchbank's combination of superb scenery and great golf holes is typified by the par 3 fourth, which uses the river as a backdrop from a dramatically elevated tee. This pleasant 18 has an easier front 9 to ease the golfer into the game. Rossland-Trail Country Club: Rossland (6265 yds) Built in 1926, Rossland is one of the Kootenay's oldest courses. A challenging 9 with a rugged design, it features tree-lined fairways with elevation changes that range from moderate to severe. One of the par threes has a rope-tow to assist golfers in their climb to the green — truly a unique golf hole. Multiple tees provide a different look to the course when playing second 9. Granite Pointe at Nelson (5706 yards) The Vancouver Province calls Granite one of the top 10 rounds in BC. Spectacular views of the Kootenay Lake and the distant Kokanee Glacier make this course a pleasure to play. The front 9 has 3191 yards of undulating fairways that play off of the natural features of the land. Little Acres B&B is located halfway between two fantastic mountains: Whitewater, near Nelson, and Red Mountain in Rossland.
