The Stockade: Canadian Rockies Lodge and Log Cabin Description: Our family first came to the Canadian Rocky Mountains over 40 years ago and were at once entranced by the unparalleled beauty, wilderness and serenity of these rugged mountains. The Stockade embodies both the spirit of the Rockies and their venerable tradition of western living. It is above all a very personal place, romantic and rustic, nestled between towering spruce trees surrounded by magnificent mountains. We invite you and your family to join us and experience our Rocky Mountain Heritage.
Additional Information: The history of the cabins is charming and romantic. Bob was a handsome officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police when he fell in love with the beautiful Leona Mae. At that time, Mounties were not allowed to marry until they had earned the right. Bob figured that would take about 7 years, much too long to wait for the love of his life. He left the mounties to marry Leona and that was one time where the mounties did not get their man, Leona got hers!!
Choose from six authentic rustic log cabins and seven charming chalets, each reflecting a mountain setting on 2 acres of treed landscape. All guest accommodations, named for the region's high peaks, lakes and wildlife, are comfortable and cozy, filled with rustic twig furniture and hand-made quilts. All cabins are self-contained and are non-smoking.
Activities: The Stockade boasts a beautiful setting bordering with Banff National Park and numerous mountain trails. Enjoy mountain hiking and nature walks or the challenges of the world class golf resorts located nearby.
Our barbeque area is ideal for families. During the winter months, the pride of Canmore, the Nordic Center, site of the 1988 Winter Olympics, bustles with activities and offers cross-country ski trails for all abilities. Only a short drive away you will find Nakiska, Mt.Norquay, Sunshine and Lake Louise. These areas offer downhill skiing with all the breathtaking aspects of our Rocky Mountains.
