Stella Alpina provides excellent year round bed and breakfast accommodations in Canmore near Banff Alberta and Banff National Park.

Additional Information:
THE BELLAVISTA ROOM

A spacious room with outstanding views of Lady MacDonald, Grotto Mountain and the Fairholme Range. The Bellavista Room features Native American and Canadian heritage theme and decorations. The room which sleeps three, has luxurious, locally hand crafted log furniture, with a queen-sized bed, pullout sofa bed, storage facilities and vaulted ceiling.

Equipped with a TV, VCR and refrigerator, it features a large ensuite bathroom with a jacuzzi bathtub. Complementary hot chocolate, tea and coffee are provided. Snuggle in for the night under a thick feather duvet or a heavy woollen Hudson's Bay blanket. The room has an individual thermostat for floor heating.

THE FLOWER ROOM

With views of Stella Alpina's lush gardens, the Flower Room features a hand crafted log queen sized bed and pull-out sofa bed, comfortably sleeping three guests. All the spruce furniture is hand crafted. The room is equipped with a TV, VCR, refrigerator, and complementary hot chocolate, tea and coffee.

The ensuite bathroom features a jacuzzi bathtub and walk in shower. Paintings by a well known local artist, Alice Saltiel decorate the walls of the Flower Room adding to the bright, fresh atmosphere.

THE SUN ROOM
Visit with other guests in the sun-drenched communal day area and enjoy the spectacular view of the famous Three Sisters Mountains, Grassi Mountain, and Ha Ling Peak. The vaulted ceiling room is decorated with North American Native art. For your use, there is a counter, sink, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, plates, cutlery, and the dining table.









As gourmet cooks and avid gardeners, Anneke and Carmelo combine a passion for herbs and flowers with extraordinary cooking skills. They create imaginative and
delicious holistic breakfasts such as omelettes using fresh herbs, wild mushrooms, and edible flowers (in season). Enjoy smoked B.C. salmon, bagels and cream-cheese, freshly baked sweetbread with cinnamon and raisins, as well as fresh fruit and juice every day.


Activities:
SUMMER Mountain bike trails, from beginner to advanced form a network through the mountains. Canada Day celebrations, July 1, include a parade, a trail run, a town party and fireworks at night. Take to alpine trails or scenic passes on spectacular mountain trails. See hummingbirds and other: friendly animals, and enjoy the many flowers blooming at Stella Alpina. Relax fly-fishing in a trout filled lake or river. Enjoy Canmore Heritage Days Folk Festival, a celebration of music and laughter (beginning of August). The Canmore Highland Games features bagpipe music, Highland dancing, fiddling, and more, usually around the beginning of September. AUTUMN The Canadian Rocky Mountain Marathon and 8Km race, mid September, follows an incredibly scenic route. The festival of Eagles (early October) celebrates the annual southern migration of the golden eagle. Enjoy beautiful fall colours as the leaves change throughout the area - especially the larch trees. Stars shine brightly on cool fall nights, far away from big city lights. Crack the golf ball down the fairway at one of the three scenic and challenging golf courses in Canmore, or at the world famous Banff Springs Golf Course. WINTER Canmore is the site of the Canmore Nordic Centre, which was constructed for the Nordic events at the 1988 Winter Olympics. This world famous ski area hosts many major events such as the World Junior Nordic/Biathlon Championships, Nordic Masters World Championships as well as many local cross country and biathlon races. it is truly a world class facility. With Banff National Park and Lake Louise to the west and Kananaskis Country to the south, there are hundreds of groomed trails open for cross country skiing, and many areas of untouched wilderness for touring and backcountry skiing. Within an hours drive from Canmore, there are five major alpine ski resorts, one of which hosted the alpine events for the 1988 Olympics. SPRING Wild animals are often spotted along the trails and riverbanks near Stella Alpina. Watch for beaver, elk, coyotes and even bears. Crocuses and other early flowers begin to blossom in the alpine meadows. Enjoy spring skiing at nearby Sunshine Village, Lake Louise, Banff Mt. Norquay, Nakiska and Fortress Mountain. Play tennis on a free public tennis court just a few houses away. Nordic Skiing in Canmore Canmore, Alberta is one of the world's best locations for Nordic skiing. Centrally located close to both Banff National Park, Lake Louise, and Kananaskis Country there are hundreds of kilometers of groomed trails within reach. Canmore itself is home to the Canmore Nordic Centre, the site of the cross country skiing and biathlon events during the 1988 Winter Olympics -The Nordic Centre offers something for everyone from novice to elite skiers. With over 75km of trails and snowmaking facilities, the Nordic Center is always a sure bet for excellent skiing. Trail Sports ski shop offers on site ski lessons (for both Novice and Elite skiers), ski rentals, and sales. Stella Alpina guests are eligible for a 10% discount at Trail Sports. Along with hundreds of kilometers of groomed trails there are large untouched areas of wilderness. Backcountry and telemark skiers will love the untouched powder and varied terrain of the Canadian Rockies. Spotting wildlife such as moose, deer, and wolves is common even on the groomed trails. Anneke and Carmelo are avid outdoors people who have lived and explored the area for over 15 years. They have been actively involved in the Nordic ski community for many years and their daughter is a former member of the Canadian National Biathlon Team. With their wealth of experience and knowledge of trails in the area, your hosts can help you plan and personalize your daily excursions depending on your level of ability and trail conditions. To keep your skis tuned and ready you can take advantage of the professional wax room. Canmore is situated between two major Alpine Downhill Ski areas, Kananaskis Country and Banff National Park. Nakiska Nakiska in Kananaskis, site of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, a close 35 minute drive east and south of Canmore in Kananaskis Provincial park, To fully ensure a successful Olympic games and reliable snow conditions for years to come, Nakiska was equipped with one of the most expensive and sophisticated snow making systems in the world. The end result is that skiers can depend on quality snow coverage from mountain top to valley bottom from December until mid-April. The mountain offers 28 different runs, a vertical drop of over 2,400 feet, and lift lineups are virtually non-existent, as the mountain features 5 lifts including 2 quad chairs, 1 triple chair, 1 double chair and a surface lift. Norquay Located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies minutes from downtown Banff. From gentle beginner runs, to heart pounding double black diamond runs, to a full featured snowboard park. A long-standing reputation for challenge is based on the first runs you see upon approaching the area: a quintet of super-steep, mogul-studded freefalls served by the original Norquay double chair. For hardcore skiing, no runs anywhere can match Upper Lone Pine and Gun Run, a dynamite black-diamond duo as demanding as any trails in the Rockies. Three more chairs climb up stepped-back parallel ridges and serve the area's beginner & intermediate runs. Norquay offers 162 acres of skiable terrain with 25 runs, longest being 3828 feet, season is from early December to mid April. Sunshine Village Sunshine Village in Banff National Park, a thirty minute drive from Canmore to the Sunshine parking lot and the high speed 6 passenger Gondola which will whisk you up too Sunshine Village and the spectacular Sunshine ski area. With three high speed quad lifts, 1 triple chair, 3 double chair's and 2 t-bars to take you to 3168 skiable square acres of deep natural snow, Sunshine Village receives 33 feet of soft, 100% natural snow annually, almost 3 times the amount as their major competitor. Ski from early November to late April. Lake Louise A scenic 1 hour drive from Canmore takes you to the Lake Louise ski area in Banff National Park.. Lake Louise is one of the biggest and most scenic ski mountains on our continent, its terrain is spread over four distinct mountain faces, with 1700 skiable hectares (4200 acres) of ski terrain, 105 named runs and a vertical rise of 1,026 meters (3,365 feet). Every chair has a beginner, intermediate and expert way down so all levels can explore virtually the whole resort. Season is from early November to Late April.
