DEER VALLEY RESORT, PARK CITY, UTAH (Summer, 2004) – Deer Valley Resort has been home to summer Utah Symphony performances for the past 20 years. The Utah Symphony & Opera is now pleased to announce a new entertainment format to enhance an already beloved summer music series.
The Deer Valley Music Festival, July 24 – August 21, 2004, will encompass a month-long celebration of music, featuring performances of Masterworks and Pops at Deer Valley's renowned Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater, Chamber Orchestra and guest Chamber performances at Park City's St. Mary's Church, and a weekend of fully-staged, light operetta at Deer Valley as well as salon events in exquisite Deer Valley area homes, where guests will hear and meet artists on a personal level.
“It is time to enhance the artistic product and establish a universal reputation as an extraordinary music festival,” said Utah Symphony & Opera CEO, Opera General Director Anne Ewers. “This will only further Deer Valley's many attributes as a destination for audiences around the world.”
Symphony performances scheduled at Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater include: Patriotic Favorites on July 4; Music Director Keith Lockhart conducting a Gershwin Tribute on Saturday, July 24; From the New World, featuring classical works such as Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 on Friday, July 30; jazz and bluegrass favorite Bela Fleck and the Flecktones performing with the Symphony on Saturday, July 31; Music for the Silver Screen, featuring guest cellist Zuill Bailey on Friday, August 6; Broadway Stars on Saturday, August 7; From Mozart to the Future, on Wednesday, August 18; Olga Kern Plays Rach 2, on Friday, August 20; and Tchaikovsky's historic “1812 Overture” on Saturday, August 21, replete with blasting cannons at show's end. The Operetta H.M.S. Pinafore will be performed Friday and Saturday, August 13 – 14. All programs begin at 7:30 p.m., with the exception of the July 4th concert which begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online at deervalleymusicfestival.org, or by calling the Utah Symphony & Opera Box Office at 533-NOTE, or toll free at 1-800-864-9298. After July 19, 2004, tickets can also be purchased by stopping into the Deer Valley Signatures stores at Silver Lake Village or 625 Main Street, Park City or at Deer Valley Etc. in Deer Valley's Snow Park Lodge. Ticket prices are $34 or $42 for reserved seating, $18 for general admission, $65 for a family pass and $10 for students. At all of Deer Valley's musical events guests may bring their own picnic baskets, purchase Deer Valley Gourmet Picnic Baskets (with a 72-hour advance notice), or visit the convenient concession stand on-site. The concessions serve Deer Valley favorites such as grilled all beef hotdogs, burgers and garden burgers, chicken Caesar salads, the famed Deer Valley Turkey Chili (or a Turkey Chili dog), ice cream sandwiches made with Deer Valley's homemade jumbo cookies and more.
In addition to the exciting new Deer Valley Music Festival, Deer Valley will continue to host the Fidelity Investments Park City Jazz Festival, August 27 – 29, 2004, nationally touring popular acts, sporting events such as Pedalfest on Saturday, June 5, and the brand new Park City Cycling Festival, August 12 – 22, 2004, produced by USA Cycling.
