A Village Worthy of the Mountain
Last season, 2002-2003 Skiing Magazine bestowed the coveted award - "Best Truck Stop Turned Base Village" - on Copper Mountain in recognition of the newly completed Village at Copper. When Copper Mountain opened its doors in 1972, it consisted of little more than a parking lot and a day lodge. Thirty years later, what now sits at 9,700 feet is a village worthy of the mountain towering above it.
Last winter The Village at Copper enjoyed its first complete season of operation as five new buildings defined a pedestrian-only area filled with shops, restaurants and entertainment options. Even more dining, après and activity options have been introduced in the past year, providing greater variety for guests. The upper floors of the village's buildings offer an abundance of lodging accommodations located just steps away from the slopes. The ground floors feature a variety of shops and restaurants - each bringing something unique to the resort.
The core of The Village, Burning Stones Plaza, is located at the base of the American Eagle lift and is the hub of activity within the village. In addition to being a natural meeting place, the plaza is an ideal viewing location for weekly big air demonstrations and other on-mountain events. It also serves as a venue for live music, roaming street performers, event exhibitions and a nightly cyber-light show.
Adjacent to The Village at Copper, West Lake Market is scheduled for completion by Thanksgiving, infusing the area with new activity and excitement. Seven new buildings ranging in size from 350 to 2,400 square feet will house an eclectic variety of shops and restaurants. Activity options ranging from strolling on the boardwalk to late night party places will be available and specialty shops providing venues to learn new skills like painting pottery will be offered. A fire pit on the bank of the lake is located near comfortable heated seating, providing the ideal place for storytelling. Picnic spots are also located in the vicinity, as well as a kids play structure. Ice skating will also return to West Lake this winter, along with a new ice skating staging area that will allow guests to comfortably put on and take off their skates.
Pravda, a new Russian-style dance club and bar located along West Lake, will bring an exciting new element to Copper. Late night fanatics can enjoy a meal in the village and then head to Pravda to dance the night away. Additionally, a traditional Irish pub named Larkin's Cross will open along the lake offering a wide variety of Irish Stouts and whiskeys as well as traditional Irish fare. Iguana, Mon - a quick, Caribbean-Mexican style restaurant will offer burritos and wraps to visitors on the go. For those looking for more activity, READY, Paint, Fire! a paint your own pottery shop allows you to do just that and Giggle Works offers toys and treats for the child in everyone.
