Steamboat Springs Vacation Ideas
Back-to-basics vacation ideas
Less-is-more cabins For some people, the less modern amenities, the more relaxing the vacation. Steamboat Springs has cabin rental options that fit right in to this back-to-basics feel. The cabins range in conveniences, such as appliances, running water and electricity, and in proximity to Steamboat Springs.
Frontier days cattle drives Those who have watched John Wayne movies and wondered what it would be like to be a cowboy or cowgirl can find out firsthand by participating in a cattle drive at one of Steamboat's ranches.
Natural mineral hot springs Visitors can soak their tired muscles and revitalize their spirits with a relaxing soak in the rustic-style Strawberry Park Hot Springs or the health-club-style Heart Springs at the Steamboat Health and Recreation Center. What's the difference? Strawberry Park's hot springs are located in a forest of pine trees and offer few amenities, including electricity, (clothing is optional after dark, too) for a back-to-nature feel. The Health and Recreation Center's pools are more hot-tub like, and amenities include locker rooms, saunas and showers. Both offer massage services.
See history by foot or bike The only equipment the historic walking tour requires is a comfortable pair of shoes and a map (available for free at the Steamboat Springs Visitor Center), or a bike and some energetic legs. Destinations include Howelsen Hill, the oldest continuously-operating ski area West of the Mississippi; the Tread of Pioneers Museum; several historic houses, including the Crawford Houses that were home to Steamboat's first settlers; the Mesa School, which was built in 1916; the Old Town Pub, which used to house the area's first hospital; the historic train depot, now the Arts Depot; and the Old Power Plant.
A comfortable bed Staying at the Ritz Carlton isn't a necessity in everyone's travel plans, and Steamboat Springs has several lodging options for visitors looking for a clean, comfortable place to stay. Accommodations can include motels, condominiums, bed & breakfasts, ranches or cabins, and locations range from the mountain village and downtown to out in the country.
