Salt Lake City, Utah - Capital city of the state of Utah. Founded on July 24, 1847 by a group of 148 Mormon pioneers led by Brigham Young.  1.6 million people live along the Wasatch Front, including 171,000 residents in Utah's capital city. Salt Lake City, ranked as one of the best environments for business, has a robust central business district that includes the Salt Palace Convention Center, the Delta Center, Gallivan Plaza, Hansen Planetarium, and the Romanesque-styled Salt Lake City and County Building.  The city boasts four major shopping malls - Crossroads Plaza, ZCMI Mall, Gateway Plaza and Trolley Square - containing more than 300 retail stores and specialty shops.

Transportation - A light-rail transit system that provides two trax lines, north-south service over a 15-mile route from downtown through the Salt Lake valley and east-west service from the University to downtown Salt Lake. The Salt Lake City International Airport is served by 11 airlines with 333 scheduled daily departures, offering nonstop service to over 68 destinations. Salt Lake City is a major hub-city for Delta Air Lines.

Host City, 2002 Olympic Winter Games - Salt Lake City hosted an estimated 70,000 visitors per day during the XIX Olympic Winter Games.  Athletes from approximately 80 countries participated.

The Greatest Snow on Earth
? - 500 inches of the lightest, driest, and fluffiest snow found anywhere in the world falls at the ski resorts in Utah. Eleven of Utah's 14 resorts are located within a one-hour drive of Salt Lake City. Deer Valley Resort, Park City Mountain Resort, and Snowbasin Ski Area hosted alpine events for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

Historic Temple Square - Headquarters for the ten million member Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Attractions on Temple Square include the Salt Lake Temple -  constructed between 1853 and 1893, Salt Lake Tabernacle - home of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Assembly Hall, and two visitor centers. Other points of interest around Temple Square include the Lion House and Beehive House - office and home of Brigham Young, Family History Library - containing genealogical information on 1.5 billion people, Museum of Church History and Art, Joseph Smith Memorial Building, and the newly-constructed Conference Center and Main Street Plaza.

Professional Sports - Depending on the sport, you can catch Utah teams in action year-round, including Utah Jazz - NBA basketball, Utah Starzz - WNBA basketball, Utah Grizzlies - AHL hockey, Utah Blitzz - soccer, and the Salt Lake Stingers - PCL Baseball.

Cultural Arts - Long known for cultural excellence, Salt Lake City is home to world-class performing arts groups such as the Utah Symphony, Utah Opera Company, Ballet West, Pioneer Theatre Company and Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company. Salt Lake City also boasts many art galleries, museums, festivals and events.

Great Salt Lake -
This remnant of prehistoric Lake Bonneville covers over 2,000 square miles and is several times saltier than the ocean. It is located 16 miles west of Salt Lake City on I-80.  Antelope Island, the largest island in the lake, is accessible by traveling north of Salt Lake City on I-15 to Exit 335 and west on state Route 106/127 over the causeway to Antelope Island State Park.

Destination - Blanding - Trail of the Ancients:  From Salt Lake City proceed south on I-15 to U.S. 6 southbound.  Continue south on U.S. 6 connecting with U.S. 191 to I-70.  Proceed east on I-70 to U.S. 191 and continue south on U.S 191 to Blanding, Utah.  Distance: 263 miles  - 5 hours 30 minutes drive time

Destination - Bryce Canyon National Park:  From Salt Lake City proceed south on I-15 to U.S. 6.  Continue south on U.S. 6 to U.S. 89 and proceed south on U.S. 89 to state Route 12.  Continue east on state Route 12 to state Route 63 and proceed south to Bryce Canyon National Park.  (Alternate route on I-15 - From Salt Lake City proceed south on I-15 to state Route 20.  Continue east on state Route 20 to U.S. 89 and proceed south on U.S. 89 to state Route 12.  Continue east on state route 12 to state Route 63 and proceed south to Bryce Canyon National Park.) Distance: 260 miles - 5 hours drive time.

Destination - Capitol Reef National Park:  From Salt Lake City proceed south on I-15 to U.S. 50.  Continue south on U.S. 50 to U.S. 89 intersecting with I-70.  Continue south on U.S. 89 (I-70) to state Route 24 and proceed east on state Route 24 to Capitol Reef National Park.  Distance: 224 miles - 5 hours drive time.

Destination - Cedar City:  From Salt Lake City proceed south on I-15 to Cedar City, Utah.  Distance: 250 miles - 4 hours drive time.

Destination - Kanab:  From Salt Lake City proceed south on I-15 to either state Route 28, U.S. 50, I-70, state Route 20, or state Route 14, all of which connect with U. S. 89 and continue south on U. S 89 to Kanab, Utah.  Distance: 303 miles -  5 hours 30 minutes drive time.

Destination - Lake Powell:  Lake Powell, Wahweap Marina:  From Salt Lake City use routing to Kanab, Utah.  From Kanab proceed east on U. S. 89 to Wahweap Marina on Lake Powell.  Distance to Wahwaep Marina: 375 miles - 6 hours 30 minutes drive time. 

Destination - Lake Powell, Bullfrog Marina:  From Salt Lake City, proceed south on I-15 to U.S. 6.  Continue south on U.S. 6 to I-70.  Proceed west on I-70 to state Route 24 and continue east on state Route 24 to state Route 95.  Proceed south on state Route 95 to state Route 276 and continue south to Bullfrog Marina. Distance to Bullfrog Marina: 299 miles - 6 hours drive time.

Destination - Logan:  From Salt Lake City proceed north on I-15 to U.S. 89/U.S.91 and continue north to Logan, Utah.  Distance: 81 miles - 1 hour 30 minute drive time.

Destination - Moab: From Salt Lake City proceed south on I-15 to U.S. 6 southbound.  Continue south on U.S. 6 connecting with U.S. 191 to I-70.  Proceed east on I-70 to U.S. 191 and continue south on U.S 191 to Moab, Utah.  Distance: 238 miles - 4 hours drive time

Destination - Ogden:  From Salt Lake City proceed north on I-15 to Ogden, Utah.  Distance: 35 miles - 45 minute drive time.

Destination - Park City:  From Salt Lake City proceed east on I-80 to state Route 224 and continue south to Park City, Utah.  Distance: 31 miles - 40 minute drive time.

Destination - Price:  From Salt Lake City proceed south on I-15 to U.S. 6 southbound.  Continue south on U.S. 6 connecting with U.S. 191 Price, Utah.  Distance: 119 miles - 2 hours drive time.

Destination - Provo:  (Provo Canyon ? Heber City):  From Salt Lake City proceed south on I-15 to Provo, Utah.  Distance 45 miles -  45 minute drive time.

Destination - St. George:  From Salt Lake City proceed south on I-15 to St. George, Utah.  Distance: 303 miles - 5 hours drive time.

Destination - Vernal - Flaming Gorge National Rec. Area: From Salt Lake City proceed east on I-80 to U.S. 40 and continue east on U.S. 40 to Vernal, Utah.  Distance: 175 miles - 3 hours 30 minute drive time.

Destination - Zion National Park: From Salt Lake City proceed south on I-15 to state Route 9.  Continue east on state Route 9 east to Zion National Park.  Distance: 309 miles - 5 hours drive time
