Kid-Friendly Mountain Lodging and Adventures

When it comes to taking the kids to Colorado, no one knows more than the experts at Kids Go Too. A spin-off from a Winter Park-based lodging company, this operation makes making families  happy its business. Currently they specialize in Western Colorado, but plan to expand their offerings southward. So when you need that extra-special treatment and activities that will make the kids smile, start here.

First, click on www.kidsgotootravel.com to read about current packages such as “Colorado Trains and Teepee,” “Colorado and the West Tour,” or “Rocky Mountain Park to Park.” Then fill out an online questionnaire about your time of travel, budget, interests, and age of the kids, and a planner will call you with an itinerary that matches. If you don’t like it, just say so. Your trip planner will customize a vacation down to the smallest detail.

“What makes us different,” explains Kids Go Too President DiAnn Butler, “is that we pick preferred vendors based on our own research, then we select businesses that are best suited for families.” The Colorado Hotel in Glenwood Springs, for example, brings the kids cookies and milk when they arrive.

One way Kids Go Too planners encourage families to enjoy downtime during winter vacations is by delivering a snowman-making kit and a basket full of muffins and grape-juice champagne. For more information call 800-638-3215 or visit www.kidsgotootravel.com.

Colorado Trains and Teepees

Colorado Trains and Teepees
Recommended Ages: 7 and Up
Summer Only

Our most popular trip! Start out the adventure with a day exploring downtown Denver, hop a trolley and stop and visit Denver's "Ocean Journey" Aquarium, opening June 1999.

Work your way to the mountains with a stop in historic Georgetown. Take a ride on the Narrow Gauge Rails on the Georgetown Loop Railroad.

Late afternoon arrive in the splendid mountain town of Winter Park. A Continental Divide Jeep Tour following the old Moffat Railroad Line provides breathtaking views of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Take a hike and pack a picnic, try your luck fishing in our local ponds or streams, we even provide the poles in our "Hike and Fishing Package". Also included is a hiking guide, backpack with child and adult binoculars, first aid kit, fleece blanket, bug catcher and viewer plus more!! Spend the afternoon at Winter Park Resort riding the chairlift up and the alpine slide down!

After three nights relaxing in Winter Park, hop on the AMTRAK train to ride through awe inspiring canyons and river valleys to Glenwood Springs where you can enjoy the largest outdoor natural hot springs pool. Spend the night at the historic Hotel Colorado. Wake up to an exciting river rafting trip before heading out to Marble for the final stages of your trip.

Place your family in the thick of Western authenticity. Wranglers will help you saddle up and take you on a horseback ride following the Mt. Sopris Range. After a ride sure to stir an appetite, indulge in a savory Western BBQ Dinner served around an open campfire. Finally, retire in your own genuine Indian-Style Teepee! This unique opportunity invokes an appreciation for "the way the west once was" and is certain to instill unforgettable family memories.

Whitewater Raft Trips: For the 'River Wild' Family

I marvel at some people's ability to plan far in advance. I remember what it was like for my parents to get our entire family together for a summer trip. We went nowhere on a whim: How about this date? Nope, this brother's in-laws were going to be in town then. How about that date? Nah, I was doing a campout/training weekend with the cross-country team that week. Next!

When the Snow Melts, Aspen Heats Up

There are literally hundreds of things to do in Aspen in the summer. Known as a ski town, it's as if the entire community is in a state of apology over the lack of snow and overcompensates. On a short trip, or even on an extended one, choosing is the challenge.
