Gold Bar Campground (Group Campsites)

Gold Bar Campground is located on a sweeping curve in the Colorado River, just 14 miles from the town of Moab.  The campground offers stunning views both up and down the river corridor.  Sunset is particularly striking at Gold Bar, as the Navajo Sandstone cliffs surrounding the campground change colors as darkness falls.  Campers can hike to Corona Arch (see above photo) right from the campground.  This 90 x 140 foot arch rivals any in Arches National Park.

The Gold Bar sites are very suitable for large RV groups (up to 50 RV’s).  By reserving all three sites, up to 150 people can be accommodated at the campground.  Recreational opportunities abound in the vicinity of Gold Bar Campground;  campers may choose to engage in active recreation, or to just enjoy watching the river flow by their site.

How to Get There:  From Moab, travel five miles north on U.S. Highway 191.  Turn left (west) on Utah Highway 279 and drive ten miles.  Make a left hand turn to the Gold Bar Recreation Site.  The group sites are located adjacent to the Colorado River.   (If you are traveling south on U.S. Highway 191, turn right onto Utah Highway 279 just past the entrance to Arches National Park.)

Facilities:  There are three group campsites at the Gold Bar Recreation Site.   Each group campsite has picnic tables and a fire ring.  Two double vault toilets are located near the sites.  All three sites are located along the Colorado River and  there is ample parking for even the largest recreational vehicles.  A boat ramp is located at the Recreation Site.  There is very little shade at the sites (although shade shelters are being planned.)  Campers in spring, fall and winter enjoy the sun at this large curve in the river.  There is no drinking water on site.  Untreated (but tested) water is available at Matrimony Spring, located just east of U.S. Highway 191 on Utah Highway 128.
