Moab Campgrounds

The Moab Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management maintains twenty campgrounds for your enjoyment.  While we do not take individual campsite reservations, visitors can usually be accommodated at one of these twenty campgrounds.  Many of the campgrounds are located close to Arches National Park along the Colorado River.  These campgrounds offer views of spectacular red rock cliffs amidst a green ribbon of vegetation.  Several of the campgrounds are particularly suited to even the largest Recreational Vehicles.  These RV friendly campgrounds include Kenís Lake, Hittle Bottom, Goose Island, Goldbar and Big Bend.  Four of our campgrounds feature reservable group sites suitable for gatherings.

River Road Campgrounds - Highway 128 (River Road)

10 campgrounds along the Colorado River  (4 to 30 miles northeast of Moab; near Arches National Park).  Campsites are listed by how far they are from Moab, with the closest one being the first.

Campgrounds have picnic tables, metal fire rings, vault toilets, graveled roads, and trash receptacles.  Camping Areas have open air vault toilets and metal fire rings.  Dumpsters are available for camper use within the recreation area. Camping at all sites is limited to 14 days within a 30-day period.

Goose Island Campground is located 1.4 miles from the junction of Hwy 128 and Hwy 191.  The campsites offer spectacular views of the Colorado River and massive redrock cliffs of Arches National Park.  Both RV and tent camping are available.  This campground is popular due to its proximity to town, its shade during the summer, and the beautiful scenery.  There is no drinking water available at Goose Island, but untreated (but tested) water is available at nearby Matrimony Spring.

Goose Island Group Campsites
Goose Island Campground is located along one of the most scenic sections of the Colorado River.  Navajo Sandstone cliffs within Arches National Park soar above the river directly across from the campground.  These cliffs provide the scenic backdrop to the campground, and also offer early shade in the summer months.  Located four miles from the town of Moab, Goose Island Campground offers visitors a convenient location from which to enjoy many recreational opportunities. 

How to Get There: The Goose Island Recreation Site is located  on Utah Highway 128, two miles upstream of the junction of Utah Highway 128 and U.S. Highway 191.  You will see the Goose Island Recreation Site sign at the campground entrance.

Facilities: There are two group campsites at Goose Island. Each group campsite has picnic tables, a fire grill, and a fire ring.  Vault toilets are located near each site. Each site accommodates multiple tents, and Site A has a large raised tent pad.  A large trash dumpster is available.  There is no drinking water at the Recreation Site.  Untreated (but tested) water is available at Matrimony Spring, located just east of U.S. Highway 191 on Utah Highway 128.  Goose Island is located directly across the Colorado River from Arches National Park;  large cliffs across from the campground provide early afternoon shade to the sites.

Site Size: Group Site A accommodate from 15 to 25 people.  Group Site B holds from 20 to 40 people; each site has parking for approximately five vehicles.

Negro Bill Camping Area

Negro Bill Camping Area is located 3 miles from the junction if Hwy 128 and Hwy 191.  It is just upstream of Negro Bill Canyon and is very close to where the Porcupine Rim, a popular route for mountain biking, joins Hwy 128.  The campsites are designed for tent camping only.  Drinking water is available at nearby Matrimony Spring.

Drinks Canyon Camping Area is located 6 miles from the junction of Highway 191.  There are three entrances to the camping area; the payment station is located in the middle area.  Drinking water is availalbe at nearby Matrimony Spring.

Hal Canyon Campground

Hal Canyon Campground is located 6.5 miles from the junction of Highway 191.  It can accommodate small motor homes as well as tent campers.  Views up and down the Colorado River are particularly stunning.  Drinking water is available at Matrimony Spring, 5 miles away.

Oak Grove Campground is located 7 miles from the junction of Highway 191.  Four of the seven sites are walk-in tent camping.  Drinking water is available at Matrimony Spring, 6 miles downstream.

Big Bend Camground

Big Bend Campground is located 7.5 miles from the junction of Highway 191.  Big Bend can accommodate large RVs, trailers, and tents.  Many of the sites are located next to the Colorado River, and all are surrounded by imposing cliffs. Big Bend has a sand beach, a river walkway, and features accessible facilities.  Drinking water is available at Matrimony Spring, 6 miles away.

Big Bend Group Campsites

Big Bend Campground nestles in the Colorado Riverway, surrounded by towering cliffs and rich riparian vegetation.  Arches National Park is across the river, and the town of Moab is only ten miles away.  The group sites offer the opportunity to camp next to the Colorado River, and to enjoy the many recreational possibilities that the Moab area has to offer.

How to Get There:  The Big Bend Recreation Site is located on Utah Highway 128, 8 miles east of the junction of Utah Highway 128 and U.S. Highway 191. When you reach the Big Bend Recreation Site,  Group Sites A and B are on the river side of Highway 128 while Site C is across this highway.

Facilities:  There are three group campsites at Big Bend Recreation Site.   Each group campsite has picnic tables, a fire grill, and a fire ring.  Vault toilets are located near each site.   Sites A and B are located near the Colorado River, and have accessible facilities.  Site C is located across the road from the rest of the Recreation Site, in its own canyon setting.  Each of the sites has a large shade shelter, and each accommodates multiple tents.   A large trash dumpster is located near the group sites.  The Recreation Site includes a sandy beach for volleyball and sunbathing.    There is no drinking water at the Recreation Site.  Untreated (but tested) water is available at Matrimony Spring, located just east of U.S. Highway 191 on Utah Highway 128.

Site Size:  Group Site A accommodate from 25 to 40 people.  Group Site B holds from 15 to 20 people; Group Site C accommodates from 15 to 30 people.  It is possible to reserve all three sites, giving a maximum group size of 90 people.

Upper Big Bend Camping Area

Upper Big Bend Camping Area is located 8 miles from the junction of Highway 191.  Upper Big Bend is suitable for tent camping.  Drinking water is available at Matrimony Spring, 7 miles downstream.
