Idaho Climate Overview
What to Pack, Weather:
Seventy percent of Sun Valley's 365 days see sunshine. The area averages 200 inches of snow each year, but keep in mind that the resort has state-of-the-art snowmaking equipment covering an immense area. Most days the chance of wind is moderate, but sunny days with extremely low (under 10 degrees) temperatures are likely to host ridge-top winds.
Despite the picturesque evergreens, Sun Valley has a “mountain desert” climate, the dry air making it more comfortable than other snowy places. The average daytime winter temperature is 23 degrees. Temperatures drop swiftly with sundown and it can reach zero degrees easily with the onset of evening. Summer daytime temperatures average 78 degrees. During late spring and early fall, expect daytime temperatures in the 50s with drops to the 20s and 30s at night. Warm clothes should definitely be packed - no matter what time of year you're visiting.
