Throw in a par-71, 6,719-yard, 18-hole championship course with four tees for all ability levels, surrounded by the highest concentration of 14,000-foot mountains in the United States, and you may feel you've ascended to golf heaven.

Keeping your mind and eyes off the towering peaks and on your opening drive may just be your toughest task of the day, because at 9,300 feet above sea level, the results will speak clearly for themselves. The thin air in Telluride creates less resistance against the golf ball during its flight, translating to 15 percent more distance and perhaps best of all, straighter ball flight.

The Telluride Ski & Golf Club, open from late May to mid-October, is located in scenic Mountain Village above Telluride. The course's links design accentuates the mountain terrain, as meandering fairways wind through aspen groves and towering pines, mountain ponds and sparkling streams.

The Telluride Ski & Golf Club is both a resort course open to the public and a private club that offers a host of conveniences and reserved tee times. Greens fees during the summer months begin at $135, including cart, greens fees and practice range balls (2003 rates). Twilight rates are available daily after 2 p.m. A full practice range, complete with beautiful chipping and putting greens, is provided. There's a full-service pro shop with clubs and shoes available for rent, professional instruction and a halfway house snack shop serving a variety of food and beverages.

Located in the heart of the picturesque San Juan Mountains, the Telluride Ski & Golf Club is a links-style course with a myriad of challenging elevation changes, meandering fairways and sloping greens. All surrounded by towering pines, panoramic views and dotted with ponds and clear mountain streams.
