Alpenglow Stube
At 11,444 feet, the Alpenglow Stube is the highest gourmet restaurant in the country and offers views of the Continental Divide. Guests reach the AAA Four-DiamondTM and Wine Spectator award-winning restaurant by riding two enclosed gondolas from the base of Keystone's River Run. Ski-in/ski-out access, fur-lined slippers and a picturesque view of the Continental Divide complement the elegant and creative Colorado cuisine in the European influences. Signature dishes include Pine Cone Pate, Wild Game Grill and the acclaimed Stube Creme Brulee. For those with a culinary sense of adventure, the Stube offers its popular Degustation (chef's choice) with each guest receiving a customized dinner of the chef's choosing.
Keystone Ranch
Keystone's second AAA Four-Diamond restaurant and DiRoNA award recipient serves six-course gourmet dinners using Colorado ingredients prepared with an international flair. Listed as the best restaurant in Colorado in the 2002 Zagat Survey, the Keystone Ranch was originally the focal point of a cattle ranch and lettuce farm. Now, the log homestead is surrounded by wide-open fairways, manicured greens and bunkers of the award-winning 18-hole Keystone Ranch Golf Course in the summer.
Ski Tip Lodge
In the 1800s, the Ski Tip served as a stagecoach stop. Max and Edna Dercum, Keystone's founders, bought the historic structure in the 1940s and turned it into their private residence. The Ski Tip Lodge is now a charming bed and breakfast and home to one of Keystone's finest restaurants. Dinner is a four-course affair of sophisticated American cuisine served year-round. Dessert is served in the library or living room around a blazing fire in the original stone fireplaces.
Der Fondue Chessel
The Bavarian-style Der Fondue Chessel offers an authentic and interactive dining experience.Live music featuring traditional polkas, chicken dance and other familiar songs make this the ideal gathering place for families or groups. Two enclosed gondolas take guests to an evening of Swiss-style food and live Bavarian accordion music. Four-course dinners feature cheese fondue, Caesar salad, raclette grilling and chocolate fondue.
Family Dining
Families will enjoy many of the restaurants at Keystone, especially in Keystone Village and River Run. From casual dinners the Big Horn Steakhouse to mountain Mexican fare, burgers and geodes at Ida Belle's, families will delight in the discounts here. Many restaurants offer free dining for children 12 and under, children's menus and relaxed atmospheres. Horse-drawn dinner sleigh rides are another popular choice for families and offer home-style cooking in addition to cowboy songs.
Don't miss River Run's pedestrian village or Keystone Village for shopping, dining and apres-ski. This year, don't miss Party in the Peaks in River Run, featuring dinner and drinks specials, live music, ice skating, games and more in January and February. At Party in the Peaks, themed days - such as Saturday Night Fever and Beach Party on Ice - will entice visitors to the villages. Other hot night spots include Great Northern Tavern, a microbrewery in the heart of River Run Plaza, Kickapoo Tavern with its large deck in River Run, Snake River Saloon for western hospitality and The Goat, a locals' favorite for food, drinks and music.
Editor's Note:
The Kickapoo Tavern is one of the best bars I have experienced for having some drinks after a great day of skiing or boarding at Keystone. It is located in River Run (where the gondola is) and it is only about 200 yards from the slopes. For those who don't wish to ski the whole day, the Kickapoo is the perfect spot to relax, have some lunch, and listen to live music, while you wait for family or friends. On a sunny day, you can sit out on their awesome deck, catch some afternoon sun, people watch, and feel confident telling yourself...it doesn't get any better than this!
