Food writers across the country are taking notice of chef innovation in this small resort boasting over 50 restaurants and bars. New approaches in American cuisine, wine cellars that rival those found on either coast and tasting menus prepared by seasoned chefs create the perfect atmosphere to match any mood.

CRÈME DE LA CREME
Perched at 10,550 feet above sea level, Allred's has received stellar reviews and critical acclaim for its sensational cuisine and spectacular views. Chef de cuisine Bob Scherner and his innovative culinary techniques have earned the highest of praise from publications such as Wine Spectator, Ski Magazine, USA Today and Gourmet Magazine as well as an invitation to renowned James Beard House. Just a block from the base of the gondola, Bluepoint is a hip and chic seafood and steak house with the laid back feel of the Rocky Mountains. After dinner, guests can head down to the Noir Bar, a swank martini bar with leather sofas, faux fur bench seats, leopard spotted carpet and a fireplace, (970) 728-8862.

9545 Restaurant and Bar is Telluride's only ski-in/ski-out fine dining eatery. Located at the top of Lift 1, 9545 offers exceptional mountainside dining at the Inn at Lost Creek. Steeped in Telluride history, Harmon's at The Depot is housed within the historic train depot along the San Miguel River. Inside, hand-carved Honduran mahogany woodwork in the bar and dining area give this restaurant the feel of a turn-of-the-century rail car. FRENCH FLAIR

A TASTE OF ITALY
Italian-born Paolo Canclini brought a touch of Italy to the San Juan Mountains with Rustico Ristorante in Telluride and La Piazza del Villaggio in Mountain Village. Reminiscent of cozy Italian villas, the ambiance of both restaurants incorporates the art and architecture of their homeland. Rustico features a trattoria-style menu of fresh-made pastas and pizza in a wood-fired oven. Offering one of the largest selections of Italian wines in all of Colorado, Rustico and La Piazza host exceptional wine dinners throughout the winter. Set in a quaint historic house off Main Street, Campagna serves the traditional food of the Tuscan countryside, created with the finest in season ingredients. FAR EASTERN DELIGHTS
A Telluride favorite, Honga's Lotus Petal features an extensive selection of Asian cuisine. Guests can enjoy Honga's specialties in the social atmosphere of the bar, in the main dining room, or in the tea room, where guests lounge on oversized pillows strewn about the floor, (970) 728-5134.

Euphoria showcases a variety of creative sushi selections. Telluride's only raw bar, serves oysters on the half shell, carpaccio, tartars, ceviche and Latin American seafood cocktails, (970) 728-0957.

Located in the historic Swede Finn Hall, the Limeleaf features traditional Thai dishes as well as several of the Chef's own creations fusing Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese and Indian flavors, (970) 728-2085.

SOUTH OF THE BORDER

SURF AND TURF

After a glorious day on the slopes, locals and visitors flock to several favorite watering holes.
