KEYSTONE RESORT INCREASES OPERATIONAL BOUNDARY BY 577 ACRES AND UNVEILS KEYSTONE ADVENTURE TOURS

Keystone, Colo- February 3, 2004 – Chuck Tolton, Director of the Mountain Operations Group at Keystone Resort announced that US Forest Service has approved the addition of 577 acres, bringing the areas known as Erickson Bowl and Little Bowl inside the ski area boundary for snowcat skiing operations. The snowcat tours will be operated under Keystone Adventure Tours, and will begin operations within in the next few weeks.

"We are really excited to be able to offer a new product to our guests," said Tolton. “Keystone Adventure Tours is the perfect way to introduce the traditional resort skier to a controlled and guided backcountry experience, inside the boundary of our resort. Through our pilot program last year, we identified a large demand for an experience of this nature. By working with the community and the Forest Service, we are now able to fulfill that demand.”

Keystone Adventure Tours will operate two snowcats offering a variety of daily weather dependent tours including guided half-day ski tours in the new terrain, shuttles to Outback Ridge, Scenic Tours, and specialty programs.

First Tracks Snowcat Tour
Leaving from Adventure Point on Dercum Mountain at 9 a.m., guests will enjoy skiing in Erickson and Little Bowls, followed by a lunch at the Alpenglow Stube on Keystone’s North Peak. Price: $65 per person including lunch.

Lunch Run Snowcat Tour
Leaving from the Outpost on Keystone’s North Peak at Noon, guests will enjoy skiing in Erickson and Little Bowls, as well as a box lunch served during the tour. The cat will return guests to Outpost on Keystone’s North Peak at 3 p.m. Price: $65 per person including lunch.

Outback Shuttle
Running every 15 minutes from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. from the top of the Outback Express up the Outback Ridge, the Outback Shuttle is a first come first serve cat ride accessing the North and South Bowls of Keystone’s Outback. Cost: $5 per ride.

Scenic Tours
Running at 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. daily between Adventure Point on Dercum Mountain and the Outpost on Keystone’s North Peak, the scenic tours will take guest along the pristine peak-to-peak trail. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children.  The 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. tours leave from the Outpost on Keystone’s North Peak, and the 3 p.m. tour leaves from Adventure Point on Keystone’s Dercum Mountain.

Avalanche Awareness Courses
The Avalanche Awareness Course is operated by the Keystone Ski Patrol, and mixes classroom learning with on-snow practice using beacons, shovels, and probes, as well as snow pack evaluation. The classes are run on Fridays and cost $100 per person, including equipment rental. For more information contact John Ulbrich with the Keystone Ski Patrol at (970) 496-4523.
