Fourth of July Festivities at Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area


SALIDA, Co--Bring the family camping at one of six Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) campgrounds and enjoy the festivities for the Fourth of July. There is no better place to be for an old fashioned picnic than relaxing with your family along the Arkansas River.

July 3 - Join Great Outdoors Colorado Naturalist Amy Duggins at the Hecla Junction campground at 8:30 pm to explore the night sky for its own sparkling display.

July 4 – In the Arkansas River Valley from Leadville to Canon City, there will be all sorts of fun family activities to choose from. Buena Vista will start the holiday weekend with a hometown parade in the morning and Salida with a parade in the afternoon, and both communities will have fireworks displays that evening.

Whitewater rafting is at its peak with many quality outfitters throughout the AHRA offering trips for all ages for an occasion to remember. Remember to bring a fishing pole, as the Arkansas River and surrounding streams and lakes are teeming with trout.
