Eastface Climbing Wall
Children and adults can test their climbing skills on Steamboat's Eastface rock climbing wall. Situated in the heart of Gondola Square, this 24-foot climbing wall offers a challenging, fun and thrilling experience for everyone ages 5 and over. Equipped with an automatic belay system and adjustable harnesses, the climbing wall provides a safe and comfortable rock-climbing experience. 

Zirkel Zip 
Feel the exhilaration as you whoosh down one of the four-150 foot long ziplines located on Headwall at the base of the mountain.

ATV Tours
Hop on a four-wheeler for a ride up historical Hahns Peak or take a scenic tour on old mining and logging roads. What a way for your entire family to see the magnificent views surrounding the Steamboat lake area.

Whitewater Rafting
From tranquil waters to advanced whitewater rafting, any level of rafter can enjoy the spectacular scenery from broad plains to deep cut gorges.

Kayaking
Learn to kayak on the Yampa River with Mountain Sports Kayak School. Come join Barry and his qualified instructors to learn how to kayak safely. This is a must for anyone who loves the water and is looking for something new and fun to do this summer!

Hiking at Steamboat Springs

The Vista Nature Trail
This one-mile loop starts at the top of the gondola and offers interpretive information on wildlife habitat and local native vegetation, as well as breathtaking views of the Yampa Valley and the Steamboat Ski Area. The first half-mile of the trail is a wide, graded, gravel path, and the second half mile is a hiking trail. Hikers can bring a sack lunch and enjoy one of the picnic areas along the trail. Guided interpretive nature walks are provided by Yampatika every Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. – noon. Meet at the top of the gondola.

Thunderhead Hiking Trail
Hikers can begin their journey on the Thunderhead Hiking Trail at the top of the gondola or from the base area. This three-mile trail has a 2,180-foot elevation gain/loss and meanders through aspen and evergreen groves that offer scenic vistas of the Yampa Valley. Proper footwear, rain gear, sunscreen and plenty of water are recommended. Hikers should allow about 1.5 hours to reach the base from the top of the gondola. Hiking is also allowed on all mountain bike trails. However, no mountain bikes are allowed on the Thunderhead Hiking Trail.

Guided Gourmet Hike
Every Tuesday and Friday, the Steamboat Ski Area Ambassadors guide hikers on an invigorating 1.5-mile trek from the top of the gondola to the Four Points Hut. Hikers will learn about the area's flora and fauna, geology, history and geography as they venture to 9,716 feet. As a reward for their efforts, hikers will enjoy a specially prepared gourmet lunch while taking in the beauty and serenity of Mount Werner. Meet at the Information Center at 10:30 am, upload the gondola at 10:40 am, lunch is from noon until 1 pm and download the gondola at approximately 1:45 pm.

Biking & Scooters

Mountain Biking
The ski area offers 15 trails with more than 50 miles of world-class mountain bike terrain to explore. Mountain bikes are available for rent, or riders can bring their own. The ski area rents front- or full-suspension mountain bikes, and the resort's knowledgeable mountain bike staff can assist with bike and helmet selection, basic mountain bike operation, general safety, and trail selection to suit individual needs. Individual trail lengths vary with the longest single trail being six miles long. Helmets are required on all mountain trails.

Women's Mountain Bike Clinics with World Champion Katie Lindquist
The resort's Women's Mountain Bike Clinics feature Katie Lindquist, an expert biker, certified cycling coach, 2000 World Champion and 24-hour mountain bike racer. They are designed to help women gain confidence on their bikes while learning riding technique and maintenance, and building skills. Clinics are for beginner- to intermediate-level female bikers ages 16 and up who are ready to move from a dirt road to a trail, and want to learn how to change a flat tire, get a better fit on their bike, and navigate obstacles, as well as ride switchbacks, climb hills and ride downhill. Clinics will be offered every Friday from 10 am – 2 pm beginning June 27th through August 29th (excluding July 4th). Diggler All-Mountain Scooters
If you want to experience something new especially designed for the mountain trails try the Diggler All-Mountain Scooter. Digglers are a cross between a mountain bike and a snowboard. Digglers are great fun all around offering an exhilarating way down the mountain.

A Leisurely Afternoon

Gondola Rides
The Steamboat Ski Area's eight-passenger Gondola will be open Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 15, 2003, and then daily June 20 through August 24, 2003. Labor Day Weekend operations will begin Friday, August 29 – Monday, September 1, 2003. After Labor Day Weekend the Gondola will be open weekends only through September 21, 2003. Uphill operations are 10:00am - 4:00pm, with the last download at 4:30pm. On Sundays the gondola will open at 9:00am. Tickets are available at the Main Ticket Office or Ride Sports, open 9:00am - 5:00pm.

The Nature Den
The Nature Den, open daily, and located in foyer of Thunderhead at the top of the gondola, provides an interpretive environmental exhibit and information on the area with weekly special activities throughout the summer. The Nature Den will be staffed with an interpreter every Friday and Saturday from noon – 3 p.m.

Shopping
You’ll find everything you need for mountain biking at RideSports, open daily in Gondola Square, adjacent to the gondola entrance. RideSports features a wide variety logo wear, resort wear, and mountain accessories. Bike repair, beverages and snacks also available.

While you’re at the top of the Gondola, visit The Top Shop. Select a unique Steamboat souvenir or gift to commemorate your adventure. Other mountain essentials include sunscreen, sunglasses and film. Open daily.

Art on the Mountain
Artisans from around the state of Colorado will be presenting and selling art of various mediums in Gondola Square on the following weekends: July 4–6, July 26–27, August 9–10 and Sept 20. Other festivities include live music, food vendors, and activities for kids of all ages.

Natural Hot Springs and Water Slide
At the end of an active day, a relaxing soak in a natural hot springs mineral pool can be just what your sore muscles need. The hot springs in downtown or Strawberry Park are two of our many natural treasures. For those in the group who still crave excitement, the 350 foot Waterslide will get the adrenalin going!

Kids Love Steamboat

Slingshot Bungee Jump
The Slingshot Bungee Jump provides a safe and fun way for the entire family to experience "big air" on the mountain. Steamboat's bungee trampoline combines the adrenaline rush of bungee jumping with the fun of trampoline jumping in a controlled environment. Suitable for children ages 3 and over.

Dino Bounce
Fun for the whole family, children of all ages and adults alike, your entire family will enjoy this bouncing adventure in an enclosed 15 by 15 foot inflatable dinosaur.

Kids' Adventure Club
The Kids' Adventure Club gives children a chance to share friendship and adventure through fun, hands-on exploration of Steamboat Springs and its special Western heritage. The day-camp program includes various field trips and outdoor activities for children ages 3 – 12. Camp begins June 9.

Scavenger Hunt
Yampatika and the Steamboat Ski Area provide a family scavenger hunt backpack available for checkout at the Information Center.

Alpine Slide
The Howler Alpine Slide is fun for everyone! Come join us on historic Howelsen Hill on a two-track, 2,400-foot slide of summertime fun. First, ride up the chairlift for views of Steamboat and then pick one of two tracks for your descent. Make it as wild or mild as you like!

Disc Golf
Since its debut last summer, disc golf is quickly becoming one of the most-popular summer activities at the Steamboat Ski Area. Disc-golf enthusiasts can test their skills on Steamboat's nine-hole course, which is easily accessed from Gondola Square at the base of the ski area. Disc sales and scorecards are available at RideSports in Gondola Square. The course is free to the public and open daily until dusk.
